    1. [WGS] FTM 2009 - Suffix's
    2. Dear Cuz's, Back when I first started putting sources in my computer program [FamilyTree Maker] I tried to put in suffix's, to help me to identify the people better. Problem is... once you put that in the name space and then go to the index.. you found that the person was sorted by Jr. or Sr. or Dr. not by their last name. SIGH... and then a BIGGER SIGH... =) I went through various versions of how to deal with it... and finally came up with putting their suffix or nick name in brackets [Jr.] in between their first name and last. Well, GUESS WHAT!!! In the FTM 2009 program they FINALLY fixed that issue... Now you can put the suffix in with out it distorting their name, and it will sort in the index correctly and not grab the suffix as the sorting marker!!!! Instructions: Type in persons name in the "NAME" box, located either a. in right hand section, if person is already entered. b. in the "add child" or "add spouse" box to connect them to the family. Once the "Name" box is created and displayed in the right hand section of FTM program page. Click on the edit symbol, to the right of the name and it looks like a pencil, [opens the edit name box] In the "Edit Name" window, under "Name Details": there are three boxes: Given Names: [first and middle name] Surname: [last name, maiden name for females] Suffix: [Sir, Jr., Dr., MD., Sr., etc] Type in the correct name and Suffix Click OK This will put the person in the index correctly. Example: Sir Nicholas Beke Given name: Nicholas Surname: Beke Suffix: Sir Displays in the index as: Beke, Nicholas Sir that way you can figure out which one is which... I LOVE THIS!!!!
