Several Cuz's have asked how my mom is. She has finished 4 of 6 rounds of Chemo for breast cancer. Last week they admitted her to the hospital, and it turned in to a fiasco and she checked herself out after 24 hours, coming home with the intravenous tubing to her port still attached but not capped, which allowed infection to get into her blood stream. They said they didn't know how to take the tubing off the port... [don't that sound odd?] She has been all week on twice a day intravenous antibiotic [three hours each time] to keep it from going to a staff infection which if it went to her heart would kill her in 24 hours or less. Please note this port goes directly to her heart... we have been highly upset. Today she had an appointment with the surgeon to remove the port and hopefully stop the infection... but good news he says the infection is retreating and they can save the port and continue with her remaining two treatments through the port as long as nothing changes between now and Tuesday, except for getting better. So she is out of the woods. [reason for the port is because, intravenous chemo burns up the veins and they close off] She has her 5th round on Tuesday and her last round on May 24th.. boy that will be a hallelujah day!!! Then she will have a brief respite then go for her Radiation treatments followed by taking tomoxin for five years... BUT we fell this chemo will be the worse of it... So how is she... she is better after seeing the surgeon, but still has a bit to go. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes for my mom. Dear Cuz Becky, That seems very, very odd that they didn't know how to take the tubing off the port!! What a nightmare!! I wish the best for your mom and that you both continue to have the strength to get through all of this. I hope the last chemo will be the light at the end of the tunnel and it will be a piece of cake after that. Becky, Isn't it awful when bad situation is made worse by someone else? I have faced that before and it just adds so much insult to injury! I am so happy it did turn out the way it did and hopefully smooth sailing from now on! Congrats to you and your Mom on the successful journey thus far!!! Have a great weekend!
