    1. Re: Recipe Book
    2. Dear Cousins Vi, Kathleen, Becky (?) and ?: My recollection was that 4 people asked about Penn Family Recipes. Perhaps I inadvertently deleted an Email. If so, I apologize and will he or she who sent it please let me know? At last I gathered together the copies I have. Other than my mother's personal copy and one inscribed to me I have 6 copies. Four have dust jackets on them, 2 do not. None are pristine. The dust jackets show wear and are spotted to varying degrees. One copy was inscribed to a friend by my mother. The friend returned it to me when she moved. Each copy is $20 which includes shipping. I will send them out as checks are received and in the interest of fairness aim to send the "best" (please note none are perfect as they have been on our book shelves for a long time) in the order received. If you are especially interested in the copy signed by my mother despite the inscription to "Nancy..." please let me know. Also, please note once again that my initial remark as to the recipes arrival in PA was incorrect. They came with Penn on his 1703 trip to PA after being transcribed by Penn's secretary Edward Blackfan in 1702. I corrected my original Email below. For those of you who inquired I will check on The Army of West Virginia, the story of "Capt." James Abraham later. My eldest son is presently asleep in the room where they are shelved. It is so lovely to have a connection with so many blood relatives who are interested in our family connections. Tomorrow, Thursday, May 19, 2005, beloved son, Brett Wynne Lasky-Benson, graduates magna cum laude from Temple University and the Fox School of Business in Philadelphia. Fitting that the Wynne line continues the tradition of excellence in the Philadelphia area. He will enter law school in the fall. The exact law school not yet determined as acceptances have been received from some and replies are still awaited from others. May serenity and joy be with all of you, Cousin Susannah In a message dated 4/29/2005 5:04:24 PM Eastern Standard Time, davidvi@uslink.net writes: Susannah, I hope I'm not too late to ask for a recipe book. We've been offline since yesterday - a repairman on 'the main telephone line out here pinched a fitting or something technical like that. Cuz Vi from MN My mother, Evelyn Abraham Benson, during the 1930s while doing research at the Historical Society of PA found the recipes that were sent over with William Penn on his 1703 trip to PA. His wife had his secretary Edward Blackfan transcribe them in 1702 In the 1960s mother who could read the old English script, transcribed the recipes and wrote a biography of Gulielma Maria Springett Penn. These were published as Penn Family Recipes. The book is now out of print. However, I do have some copies, some with dust jackets, some without, none absolutely pristine. If you want one let me know and I'll describe what is available to you and figure out a price. Someone used the recipes and developed modern measurements and ingredients to create the same dishes. I don't recall the exact title of that book. Both used to be for sale at Pennsbury. I was told there is a restaurant at Penns Landing that on Charter Day serves dishes made from the recipes.
