Reunions are either great, or, "WHY did we do this"? My father got all the Kent Co & Baltimore City Dickersons together for the 1st & only family reunion! Never again, he said! Dear Cuz Joe, Jus about to sign off. My Mom's family [Davis-Powell] promised their mother in 1968, on her death bed, that her nine children and their families would continue the reunions she started in 1961. She also made them promise that once a year her nine children would gather together. Since then the nine children and their spouses gather the first Saturday of December every year for a Christmas party and only they are invited. On the third weekend of June every year we have the Davis-Powell reunion. Each year one of the nine host it, rotating through the families, so you only host it every 9 years. This is our 44th [forty-fourth] year of having the reunion, so chemo or not we are having it. We have six of the nine children living, 35 of the 36 grandchildren living, 81 of the 89 great grandchildren living, and 63 of the 64 great great grandchildren living, and most try to be there for lunch at noon, when we do count off and prayer before the main lunch. Then an Auction to raise money for the next reunion, then games and visiting. Friday night we have an ice cream social, Sunday we have church service, as there are 3 ministers in the family, then all head back home for another year. It is fun and we love it. I am named after that grandmother "Becky [Rebecca] J. Powell Davis", and my fathers mother Naomi R. Smith Wynn. I now will sign off, and see if I can get to Oklahoma and host this thing!!!
