Hi Cuz Connie, Are there any published pedigrees for some of these Morgan of Caelan lines where you are expecting to find a match? Pedigrees of those who have been in America for generations, that is. I know there are a gazillion Morgan's, but curious because my paternal grandmother's maiden name was Morgan. Have only traced her line back to late 1700's to South Carolina. Some say these Morgan's had been in Pennsylvania, but documentation not convincing. I know there was a group of Welsh Baptists who left Pennsylvania/Delaware and did settle in North Carolina and spread out from there. My Morgan's left South Carolina and ended up south of Dallas, Texas in Ellis County in the 1860's or so, where my grandmother was born. I don't recall seeing the conversation in past emails about these Morgan's. Probably before I joined the group? Nancy: I live in Morgan Co., Alabama, named for Gen. Daniel Morgan of Virginia. Do a "Google" on History of Morgan Co., AL then click on Daniel Morgan. It takes you to a long writeup in Wikipedia. It talks about Morgan getting a hatred for the British when he was in Braddock's British army that attacked the French & Indians at Ft. Duquesne at now Pittsburg. I grew up within 10 miles, as the crow flies, from Fort Necessity which was constructed hastily by George Washington who had taken charge of Braddock's retreating army, after Braddock was killed. The British said that the Indians did not fight fair! They hid behind trees and shot the leaders first, both contrary to the European style of battle where they lined up in bright red uniforms and marched shoulder to shoulder against their opponent. Officers were not killed, except by stray bullets, and often after a winner was declared, officers from both sides met and had drinks and complemented each other. Thanks, Gary. Interesting reading. The reputation of many of my Morgan's is that if there was a fight going on, they were all in. Sounds like Daniel Morgan was such a man.
