Dear Cuz's, I am looking in Footnote for some docs... and at the moment I am pulling copies of Isaac Warner Jonathan & Thomas Wynn.... you know those revolutionary guys that went to Fayette and also stayed in Chester... Ok... so I wandered off on to the Pennsylvania Archives, Series 3, in several volumes... but in volume XII, there is a Warner Wynn on page 66, 296 and 760.... On page 296.. its page header is Pg 294 EAST NANTMILL RATES ______ then the next pages lists names Acres Horses Cattle Sheep Servants etc.. doing the same through pages 295 296 CHESTER COUNTY RATES - 1780 Lists the name then Acres, Horses. Cattle. Sheep. Servants. and then below that it says _____ INMATES Then list them... and in there is Benjamin Abraham Warner Wynn Ephram Wayne Ep'm Wayne Thomas Vance Jacob Steel William Vance James Wynn And a whole bunch of others... What was our guys inmates of??? Jail and why??? Pg 297 says: CHESTER COUNTY RATES - 1780 FREEMEN Jon'a Wayne Jacob Vance and others Then goes on to town of Vincent... Anyone have a clue??? Found a reference to "inmate" as rentor of land, "freeholder" as owner of land, and "freeman" as being over 21 and not married. Cuz Becky: I think the term "freeman" means the man was not married. The term "inmate" means that he was married. Will do a little more checking on that to make sure.
