    2. Dear Cuz Diana, Totally agree on the census takers. Try as they might lots of times they were dealing with people who could not write or spell, or with foreign accents, they had a problem understanding, or were just in a hurry and jotted down what "they" thought was the spelling. I get a big chuckle about some genealogy people who take the hard stand on the "But on the census they spelled it like this" so it must be.... Yeah right.. ha ha For myself I just wanted to see if there was something out there in a document that would be more powerful than a census.
