Dear Cuz Diana, Even though the census's [1900, 1920, 1930] show them as Patterson, Robert Bruce Paterson's Passport that lists himself and his father shows his father and himself to be spelled Paterson, with one t, so I am changing my database to match yours. They have always spelled their name with one t. All the correspondence to and from my great grandfather, Alexander, spells the name with one t. I've come to learn that the census takers seem to take their best guess as to spellings and don't get it right more often than not.
