Dear David, I am so so sorry to hear the news about Vi. Beck called me early today and told me the sad news. My heart is so full right now and feels like it is going to break right into. Vi was a special lady. I am so glad that I joined the group and got to meet her. It was truly an honor in knowing her. Becky and I talked several times while she was up there and she would let me know how Vi was doing. I know Becky told Vi how much I loved her but I wish I could of told her myself. I am soooo glad that Becky got to see her. Vi will always have a special place in my heart. And David, you do too. Always. Dear Cuz's, Today at 3:07, Cuz Vi's husband David Alban e-mailed me and asked that I forward on the sad news that Vi passed away last night, November 24, 2010 with David and Vi's daughter Diane at her side. I flew back from Vi's last night during that snow storm. I flew/drove up there Sunday after receiving David's e-mail that she was slipping fast. I had a decision to make, go now and hope that Vi would be able to know I was there, or wait. I decided that I needed to go and see Vi, and tell her how much she meant to me. I left Sunday morning and flew/drove to Vi and David's home. No easy way to get there from Dallas, I flew from Dallas to Minneapolis, MN, rented a car and drove the 4 hours to Grand Rapids, MN, I arrived there around 8:30 PM Sunday night. Monday, I went out to Vi & David's. Vi's daughter Diane was there with David and Vi. David said that Vi had not really come up from the semi unconscious state since she arrived home Saturday night. I went over and told her I was there, and she opened her eyes and said my name and that she couldn't believe I came, she gave me a hug and kiss. She then drifted in an out, and on the brief times when she came to the surface, I showed her the Newspaper from the Philly Reunion, and the article in the Caerwys Chronicle that Mayor Phillip sent me about his trip to see us. I also told her that everyone was sending their love and prayers to her and David. I left as David was busy with all the arrangements with hospice and nurses, as they were trying to figure out their schedules. I went back out Monday afternoon, and visited again, but Vi wasn't able to respond more than a few words and just a nodding of her head. Tuesday, when I went out she did no more than just nod her head, I choose to believe she heard me as I told her my goodbyes. David asked me to go through her laptop for genealogy and also allowed me to go through her regular computer for genealogy. I knew she had worked on the new sourced book we are working on, and I wanted to be sure her part was carried forward, even if I had to finish it. I want her "words" to be there and her name taken forward. I was able to find it on her regular computer and brought it home with me. I talked to David and made sure that he and Vi's son John know that they welcome to come and continue to be part of the WGS, they are part of the family. David reads the WGS e-mails, so he will be able to keep track of the group and read your e-mails. Long trip, but one of the heart. Vi and I connected via e-mail in November of 1996, Internet was fairly new.. E-mail was first started in 1995, with internet coming to be public around 1993-1994, so this was a new thing, but it sure was a great way for us to exchange genealogy. Vi and I would exchange research e-mails several times a day, then a couple years later Vi was coming to Oklahoma City, so Queenie and I decided we would meet her there, and we had our first Unofficial WGS reunion 1997, The next year we invited a few more, and had our second Unofficial WGS reunion 1998, Terry Hardgrave, Terry's niece Diane, Joe Downs and Vi's cousin Donna joined us. We then decided to do it for real and had the First "All invited" WGS Reunion in Philadelphia in 1999. When we went to Wales in 2006, I was invited to stay at the Bron Fadog where Dr. Thomas Wynne was born, Vi shared my room at the Bron Fadog, oh the memories we have made!!! The rest is history as we just celebrated our 12th Annual WGS Reunion. Vi and I shared room at the WGS reunions from Philadelphia 1999 until 2007 in Lewes, Delaware, when Vi's husband David came for the first time. I will truly miss our e-mails, phone calls and fun. I am so glad that she was able to get her uncle to do a Y-DNA test this year and put it to rest that she may have to be "Adopted", even though we have had the paper trail to prove it for years. It was a long trip, but one I am glad I was able to do. David, you and yours are in my prayers and thoughts through the tough days a head, know your loved. Loosing Vi is hard on my heart, but I know she is now able to go an ask those genealogy questions we haven't been able to in this life. If there is anything I can do you know all you have to do is call, I am there. My mail is still lost from the list Becky forwarded me a copy. There is the Ydna testing which will give you your direct male line. Starting at about $100. There is the MtDNA direct female line same price. YOu can expand those out and get into about $350. Log on and see what FTDNA has available. They also now have family finder. Which test the other 22 for relatedness and will come back with an estimated degree of cousin. I have not seen how they are doing this so I can not tell you what degrees they are using to determine say 5th cousin. I can tell you that we are having matches within the WGS group and families from Dr. Thomas Wynne as 3rd to 5th cousins which are more like 10th cousins. As with the YDNA the relationship seems closer than it should be by estimation of the match. Family finder is about $300. Hope this helps Cuz Connie GramereC@aol.com Hi all, > > Would someone recap all the different: > testing options available > costs > what relationships they can test for / prove? > > Thanks. > John Albertini > another "lurker" from the Ruth Randall (married Michael Cramblitt) line >

A note of interest! There is another descendent of the Royal Wynne Family who lives in Fort Wayne. Phillip Gardner Reaser and family live there. Phil is a DJ on a radio station who uses the name Phil Gardner, I think. He's a super guy. The connection? Phil is the third Son of Rev. Paul Reaser & Jean Gardner Reaser (Younger Sister of my Mother, Marion G. Gardner Coulson). AKA a descendent thru Dr. Thomas Wynne's daughter, Sydney. Got it, Becky et all? Try as they might lots of times they were dealing with people who could not write or spell, or with foreign accents, they had a problem understanding, or were just in a hurry and jotted down what "they" thought was the spelling. I get a big chuckle about some genealogy people who take the hard stand on the "But on the census they spelled it like this" so it must be....
