    3. Becky, Isn't it awful when bad situation is made worse by someone else? I have faced that before and it just adds so much insult to injury! I am so happy it did turn out the way it did and hopefully smooth sailing from now on! Congrats to you and your Mom on the successful journey thus far!!! Have a great weekend! 3. The Welcome Claimants - McCracken, pg 1 The Welcome was the 18th of 23 ships to reach the infant port of Philadelphia. ... Early in the month of July 1682 Robert Greenway, master of the "Welcome", began to load his vessel intending to sail to Pennsylvania,1 and preparations for the voyage were reported in various English newspapers of the time.2 pg 2. In the Epitome of the Weekly News No. 2 a dispatch from Deal bearing date of 29 Aug. 1682 appeared: "Being Wednesday, the WInd East North East, William Penn Esq., SOle Proprietor and Governour of Pennsilvania, went on Baord the Welcome, in order to his Voyage for that Province, Accompanied with his Wife and others to Dover Road, where they parted: There are Ships from several ports preparing to go; and likewise another ship from London, on the account of the Society of Traders in Pennsylvania, which is already fallen down to Gravesend, and is to follow after the 10th instant." Another dispatch from Deal was given to the public in the London Gazette No. 1753 on 2 September: "Two days since sailed out of the Downs three ships bound for Pensilvania, on board of which was Mr. Pen with a great many Quakers, who to to settle there." pg 4 In any case, it is certain that the "Welcome" arrived at New Castle, now in Delaware on 27 Oct. 1682, for under the date of the 18th, we find in Book B. page 437 of the "Records of the Court of New Castle on Delaware" [Meadville, Pa., 1935], 2:21, the following: "On the 27th day of October 1682; arrived before ye Towne of New Castle in Delowar from England William Penn Esqr Proprietry: of Penlivania ...ye sd William Penn Received possession of ye Towne of New Castle ye 28th of Octobr 1682" pg 5 A model of the "Welcome", so entitled, made by the late Gustavus Wynne Cook, a descendant of the passenger Dr. Thomas Wynne, is in the Maritime Museum, 427 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, and was shown in a photograph printed in the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin, Saturday 19 June 1965 pg. Is your father still living? Hugs Cuz Becky My mother's death date: October 13, 1993. My father's date I will have to look up. He died in his room in NY of heart problems several years before my mother's death. He was 8 years younger than she. He wasn't discovered for at least 10 days so the coroner established the date of death. There is a very unusual story around his death, but first: My father was a disturbed and unbalanced human being whom my mother married on the rebound. In fact, only yesterday it hit me why she married him. I'd never been able to figure out why such an intelligent woman did something that was so "dumb." When age 16 accompanying her parents to Europe she met the man she always expected to marry. She was 16. He was 21. His mother, 16 years later, set her son up with the girl on the neighboring estate. My mother read about this in the NY Times. She was grief stricken. I learned from a grief counselor that women devalue themselves when their mate dies and are likely to be promiscuous whereas men marry quickly and usually marry someone completely unsuitable. My mother met my father in Philadelphia's Elfreth's Alley during an historical pageant in which she had a role. She commented, "He held the lucky ticket." There are fascinating stories behind all of this. For now the story regarding my father's death: Let's see if I can state this succinctly. A psychic singled me out from a gathering of about 50 people and said he had a message from "Dad." As I hadn't heard that my father had died there was discussion as to who the message could be from. Finally the psychic said, "He says he's Dad, I'll just tell you what he is saying." "Dad" thanked me for caring for my mother. He realized I hadn't been receiving any help and stated that it was OK for me to get help. It was a warm and supportive message. I was touched and quite puzzled by the whole exchange. Five days later there was a message from my aunt on my answering machine that she had "sad news" for me. My father had died. For the record this was, for me, knews of a stranger. I did not know my father. The few encounters I had had with him over the years were negative. When I spoke with my aunt and told her about the "message" I asked if my father had been dead 5 days earlier. Turned out my aunt didn't have the details. I, as his only heir, received the death certificate. The approximate date of death was, as I recall, about 5 days before I received "the message." This was definitely the most intimate moment I had had with my father since the age of 3 when he caught a wild baby bunny for me. He was in the Merchant Marine and never made it home from port. When I was 11 years old my parents were officially divorced. All that because you asked for a date! All the Best, Susannah

    1. The Calendar issue
    2. The Thill Group Inc
    3. The Julian Calendar was replaced in England and its possessions by the Gregorian in September of 1752. New years day was changed from 25 March to 1 January. .... In the Julian Calendar as used in this country before 1752, the entire month of March was designated the first month, April, the second, and so on, January being the eleventh and February the twelfth month. Thus, when dealing with any month before 1752, it is necessary to make clear which style is being followed, and the best way to do this is to use a double year. Thus, "22 Feb. 1731/2" or "22 12th mo. 1731/2" means that the year was that which those who lived through it called 1731 but which we would now call 1732. 3. Dear Cuz Becky, That seems very, very odd that they didn't know how to take the tubing off the port!! What a nightmare!! I wish the best for your mom and that you both continue to have the strength to get through all of this. I hope the last chemo will be the light at the end of the tunnel and it will be a piece of cake after that. She has finished 4 of 6 rounds of Chemo for breast cancer. Last week they admitted her to the hospital, and it turned in to a fiasco and she checked herself out after 24 hours, coming home with the intravenous tubing to her port still attached but not capped, which allowed infection to get into her blood stream. They said they didn't know how to take the tubing off the port... [don't that sound odd?] She has been all week on twice a day intravenous antibiotic [three hours each time] to keep it from going to a staff infection which if it went to her heart would kill her in 24 hours or less. Please note this port goes directly to her heart... we have been highly upset. Today she had an appointment with the surgeon to remove the port and hopefully stop the infection... but good news he says the infection is retreating and they can save the port and continue with her remaining two treatments through the port as long as nothing changes between now and Tuesday, except for getting better. So she is out of the woods. [reason for the port is because, intravenous chemo burns up the veins and they close off] She has her 5th round on Tuesday and her last round on May 24th.. boy that will be a hallelujah day!!! Then she will have a brief respite then go for her Radiation treatments followed by taking tomoxin for five years... BUT we fell this chemo will be the worse of it... So how is she... she is better after seeing the surgeon, but still has a bit to go. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes for my mom.
