Colonial handwriting is sometimes easy to misread. The following are some letters which (in colonial handwriting) are easily misread for each other: "g" and "y" "d-o" and "e-w" "m", "n" and "u" "S" and "L" "T" and "F" Here are three of the most commonly misread English names: David - Daniel Mary - Margaret (when abbreviated Marg.) Samuel - Lemuel Confusion with Abbreviations of Names Christ. is the abbreviation sometimes used for Christian and other times for Christopher. Jac. is used for Jacob - sometimes misread as Jas. and hence James Jo. is usually meant for John, not Joseph Jos. is easily misread for Jas. and hence a misinterpretation of Joseph and James. Jno. is sometimes shown as Jno which can be misread as Tho. leading to an erroneous Thomas for John which the average reader would not expect. Nathan is sometimes and abbreviation for Nathaniel and can also be a full-name. Rd. is used for Richard and is misread variously. Xtopher is used for Christopher. ttg-inc@comcast.net http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/

    3. Becky, I looked through my Family Tree Maker and find no Benjamin that fits that date. I got to thinking about something George Davis said - that in PA Warner Wynn and _Owen?_ Davis were good friends and served together in the Militia - that would probably be after the Rev. War - in the 1780s plus. So maybe we need to look at that kind of service instead of the Flying Camp stuff during the Rev. War. Thomas Wynn/Anne Abraham's oldest son was named Benjamin, born in 1774 - a bit too young???? If the birth date was correct. 3. Dear Cuz's, Guess what!!! I talked to Cuz Joyce Gail, and Olema Hudspeth's son Robbie contacted Joyce Gail and said she may have all of Olema's research!!!! Cuz Joyce Gail is making arrangements to pick it all up, so she will soon have all of Olema'ss research. That is one of the biggest concerns I have with our research, the arrangements for it to be passed to someone who will take care of it and continue to share it with other researchers. Olema was going to donate her research to an institution, but Robbie felt it would be best handled by Cuz Joyce Gail, because he could make no odds or ends of it as he is not into genealogy. I believe that Olema would be pleased that her research will be going on and kept with the respect it deserves. For those who did not know Olema Hudspeth, she was a very strong researcher who collected records starting before xerox machines, e-mail and other things we take for granted. She was not shy in correcting or arguing for the good, the points of her research. The WGS respected her greatly for her research. She is missed. She passed April 19th, 2005, at 75 years of age.
