    3. Becky, Jeri and I will not be going to Wales. You probably know this but just wanted to be certain. He is going to have a hip replaced in June. In Wales they have the government medical stuff there so they have him on the non-emergency list and they are scheduled out until then... So he wants to know if we could come in May instead of June, 2006. Plus his reign as Mayor will end the third Tuesday of May, which he wasn't sure of the date before, so if we moved the date to May 11th - May 15th, 2006, we could be there while he is still Mayor. I need everyone to VOTE and tell me what you think. I also talked to him about how long should we be there.. he is thinking we come in on a Thursday, then Friday going to Hawarden for research, and then that evening either Caerwys or the County will be doing a reception and meal. On Saturday going to the Bron Fadog and then that evening either Town of Caerwys or the County is also wanting to do a Reception and Meal.. then Sunday going sight seeing with Mayor Phillip to all the historical places [Ruthen prison, a Castle etc] then we go home on Monday. Or you can travel on to what ever you want to do. Also, he said that the people in the town will be volunteering to host people in their homes so they don't have to stay in hotels, they would also help with traveling around as they will have cars, and that is easier on the weekend then during the week as people work. Then there will also be the hotels around, but then we are dealing with transportation... If you want to stay with a family... please let me know, Mayor Phillip needs a head count.. it would be more convenient if we did. Ok.. Main vote.. can we go in May, second is let me know if you will stay in a welsh family home. 1. Pennsbury
    2. Pennsbury is in Bucks County not in Philadelphia. Hope you guys enjoyed the Quaker wedding there. This is the site from Penn's home town. _http://www.csm.uwe.ac.uk/~rstephen/livingeaston/local_history/Penn/Penn_famil y_Index.html_ (http://www.csm.uwe.ac.uk/~rstephen/livingeaston/local_history/Penn/Penn_family_Index.html) Pennsbury was the name of Penn's country estate and mansion in Pennsylvania. It was referred to as his "palace". Situated in Bucks County on the margin of the Delaware river, below Bordertown, William Penn and his family lived there in 1700 and 1701. John Satcher (Sotcher or Sachar) and wife Mary Loftis were the stewards of Pennsbury from 1701 until around 1710. Penn's Will of 1701 included this clause: "...& my blacks (given) their freedom, as under my hand already...." This is the only one of William Penn's wills that contain such a clause. Neither his will of 1705 nor his last will of 1712 repeated this, and, while P enn is said to have freed some slaves during his lifetime (did they become tied tenants on his estate one wonders?), other slaves passed to his heirs at his death. (see Appendix v , Fourth Will of William Penn (1701) The mansion was constructed in 1682-3, at the huge expense of £7,000. The Penns had considerable amounts of finished and ornamental materials brought out from England. Pennsbury Mansion was sixty feet by forty feet. The garden was ornamental and sloped down to the river side in front. In 1684 the original lands of Pennsbury amounted to 3431 acres, 2288 acres were later granted to others (were these, perhaps, sold or used as inducements to potential immigrants?) thus leaving some 1150 acres for his slave plantation.

    3. Dear Cuz Joan II, If yah'll are taking that tour... you might ask them if that is the actual house he "Owned" or is that the house that was rented by his wife..that was moved... It seems that when we were in Philadelphia with Elaine Peden the "William Penn" lady and were at the Welcome park, which is where the Slate roof house stood [a couple doors down from Dr. T's house], that she said that the house that was moved out there was not William Penn's actual house but a house that was rented by him and she had a problem as to the reference that it was his.. so you might explore that... When I write Elaine, I will ask her the story about it also. But I think it is great history and you should enjoy the tour.
