    3. Spoke with Merle yesterday. She was scheduled to come home today - doing well. The doctors removed calcium from one valve so that it could close, repaired that valve, repaired another valve, closed a hole in the heart between the two valves and cauterized yet another valve that had been working excessively hard. I'm sure when she is back at the computer, she will be in touch, but the worst seems to be over. Now she will probably have to learn to go more 50 miles per hour instead of 70. Even from her hospital bed, though, she was asking if there was any more information about the trip to Wales - and, come to think of it, practically the last thing she did before going into hospital was the bus trip to Pennsbury Manor. By the way, Becky, you were asking about someone's comment that the manor might have been relocated. Penn's first wife never came to Pennsylvania and the manor was built on his first stay here about 1682-1684. His second wife and one daughter did come over when Penn returned in about 1894. So there is no way that the manor could have been his wife's home that was moved from Philly. And when we took our tour, we had an opportunity to go into the basement where a portion of the original building wall is still extant! While the manor itself is a reconstruction of what the original might have looked like - there is no picture of the original - as Merle and I walked around the grounds, we were wondering if Dr. Thomas might have walked along those same paths on a visit to his friend William Penn! Gives me shivers . . . Hope all are recovering from the turkey and stuffing and punkin' pie last week. Regards. JoanII

    3. >From: Joan Bretz <jbretz1@earthlink.net> Dear Joan. I'll keep Merle in my prayers as well. I know what it is like to try to fight back to get your energy up. Happy Holidays to all. >Date: Wed Nov 23 09:35:10 CST 2005 >To: WYNNE-GENEALOGY-SOCIETY-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [WGS] Princess Merle Millhimes - off topic >A few more prayers are needed this Thanksgiving Day. As long as I have known my cousin Merle, she has rarely run at less than 70 miles per hour. This past month has been a difficult time for her - she contracted bronchial pneumonia which aggravated a long-time heart valve problem. As a result she was in and out of the ER several times, contracted an intestinal infection and was getting weaker and weaker. On Monday of this week, she underwent surgery that repaired not one but two valves and a hole in the heart. Her heart rate, which had been racing to do its work, is down and her blood pressure, which had been dropping, is back to the normal range. She is very weak but the prognosis is good. > >Hopefully she will recover fully and we will both (time and money permitting) be able to join the trek to ancestral Wales next spring. We'd like to go on to ancestral Cornwall as well while we are so close. > >A Happy Thanksgiving to All. > >JoanII > > >============================== >Search Family and Local Histories for stories about your family and the >areas they lived.
