"Barton Papers" Daugherty/Dougherty Generously Transcribed and Submitted by Sherida Dougherty Daugherty - Daugherty Grave Yard - By Mrs. Kate Newkirk Falmouth, Ky. March 17, 1940 The Daugherty graveyard is on Middle Fork of Grassy Creek, up the creek a considerable way ( 1 ½ mi) above the old Baptist Church. The old Baptist Church was on an island in a Beech Woods, and was called "Beech Island". Going up the creek from the church, the first place was John Slick Daughertys (father of Gaines Daugherty). Next was Thomas Winn, Sr. husband of Louisa (Daugherty) Winn. Across the creek in the bottom was (Capt) Joseph Daugherty who was in Legislature from Pendleton Co. I found the tree on rootsweb that I got some help from. The link that I had saved didn't work, but it does still exist. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=nancygwynn&id=I01239 And this has all the possible names for James' wife combined into one... Mary Ann Powell Moore. I had to laugh at that. I think maybe the person working on this tree is as confused as me.
Yeah, its so confusing though. Thanks for the help. I believe James (Sr?)'s wife's name is Ann Powell, not Ann Powell Moore. Ann Moore was Jonathan Jr's wife's name, and maybe the person who wrote my history down got them confused. James (Sr?) Humphreys married Ann Powell on Sep 5, 1759. James (Jr?) Humphreys married Mary Ann Gilyard on March 19, 1779. I just can't find anything that says they are father and son. There is a James Humphreys with a son named James, from the same time period, but this James Sr's wife's last name is Yorke (not sure of the first name yet). But later concluded that we were decended from Thomas, as my old relative who had done research also concluded. I had been thrown off at first by Thomas' death date in 1717, but found a few places where it said he died in 1771. Unfortunately one of the sources I was using on rootsweb is gone. Also, #9 Raymond and #10 Charles are the same person. This is the tree, I'm working with now: Amy Humphries (1973-) Thomas Humphries (1950-) & Maria Collazzo (1951-) Gerald Humphries (1920-1978) & Winnifred Keller (1922-) Charles Raymond Humphries (1879-1963) & Margaret Kelly (1882-?) Thomas Humphreys (1697-1771) & Unknown (?-?) Daniel Humphrey (1660-1735) & Hannah Wynne (1664-1750) daughter of Dr. Thomas Wynne & Martha Buttall * As mentioned in my other email today, I'm going to do some more research on James.

Oh boy, you got my head spinning on this again. I've never came to a conclusion on whether there was one James Humphreys or a Sr and Jr. I was leaning towards there only being one James, but I had dropped the one married to Mary Ann (Gilyard), who is mentioned as his wife in the will. My uncle left both James' in his tree, and now I'm thinking he might be right. The wills links you gave seem helpful. I haven't worked on the James Sr/Jr mystery in a while so I'm going to see if I can get anywhere now with this new info. On 3/17/06, Amy Humphries <amyhumphries@gmail.com> wrote: > > Awesome!
