Dear Cuz's, In the FamilyTree Maker 2009, you can put your pictures of your documents in the Media file, as well as picture images. If you are using Ancestry.com you can save the original image to your hard drive then you can open your FTM 2009 and put that image into your Media section on each person it pertains to... so you will not only have the verbal information in your source file, but an actual image of that document... sure saves time digging into your paper files, and also saves the wear and tear on the paper files to double check things. Ok... now one thing in the Ancestry.com website that is not an original image is the Social Security Death Index's..... For the more savvy of the computer wiz's... you can take a "Print Screen", and open it in your program where you edit your photo's. Then you can "Crop" it to remove all but the actual text from that webpage. Then you can load it into your FTM2009 as a image in your media file.. that way you have a image back up of what was said.... I love this!!! It then assures me that I had not typed in a date wrong or what ever. If you don't know how to do this in your photo editing program, and have Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Print Shop Pro 5, I can help you with instructions on how to crop the image. If you don't know what the "Print Screen" gizmo is... I will explain here: On your computer keyboard, there is a button, which is usually on the top row of keys and mine says "Print Screen SysRq" on my other keyboard it says the same thing.. so I believe it universally says this on most keyboards. How to use this "Print Screen" gizmo button. When you push or click on the "Print Screen" button, it takes a snap shop of your Computer Monitor screen, just like a camera taking a picture. It stores this on your Computer hard drive in the "Clip board", which is a place where things are temporarily saved when you do this "Print Screen" button, or when you use the "Cut" and "Paste" keys or when you use the "Copy" and "Paste" keys... it is a temporary storage area. One thing to note.. it will only hold it there until, you use one of the "Print Screen", "Copy" or "Cut" buttons again... then that image replaces it.. it only holds one image at a time and you can only retrieve it by hitting the "Paste" button, OR....opening it in your Image editing program. In Adobe Photoshop which I use the most... You do the following: ~Open Ancestry.com, ~Go to the Social Security Death Index or person you are wanting to copy the information from. ~Hit "Print Screen". ~Open Adobe Photoshop, ~Click "File", ~Click "New", the new image box opens and it already has width and depth information in it because it has already loaded the "Print Screen" image information in there. Click OK, ~Blank new image opens ~Click "Edit" ~Click "Paste", It will open a image which is the image of your Monitor Screen with the Ancestry.com page opened to the Social Security Page of the person you wanted to copy the information on, into that new blank image. ~Click on your Rectangular Marquee Tool option ~Draw a Rectangle around the Social Security Page part of the image. ~Click Image in top row of options ~Click CROP, it will crop your image so only the SS Page info is now remaining in the image. The image will be only the size of the SS Page info. ~Click File ~Click Save As ~Choose File Type Jpg ~Choose where you want to save it ~Title the image SS Index whom ever, or what ever you want to name it. ~Click Save Now you have a image on your hard drive of that SS Index of that person..and can now save it in your FTM2009 as a image of that information, which you can use to back up that source. If that doesn't make sense, then give me a call. Hugs Cuz Becky [email protected] http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/ "'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. Dear Cuz Katie, WHEW.... you sure can tire a girl out, your still running a million miles an hour even at 4 AM.... Please remember that this is a genealogy e-mail list, not a chat line. You can send me chats privately. Some of the hard core genealogists on the list may not appreciate all the "too much information" stuff. Just a soft reminder. Whew your a whirlwind running, I just don't know how you do it!! To the new cuz's, Sweet Katie makes the name "Hyper" seem slow, she is such a wonderful caring person, but she runs at "300" percent, not 100. We have even teased her that we were going to duct tape her in the meetings, because we couldn't get in edge wise. But please understand she has a heart just as big. First pic is a pportrait of John Wynne, Esquire I'be had it wrapped just as it came in sheets of yellowed tissue paper and in cardboard made esp for it..neat.. not going to do spell check..have to get to bed.. it is 4 am.
