    2. Dear Cuz Gary, You can use the SHARE button. It is up top right side, but the Add Delete and Print button.. It has a picture of a hand holding an envelope that has a green liner. You can share to: Upload to Ancestry Send Family Group Sheet Send Individual Report Send Photo Album Send Relationship Chart It will open a Report Preview window In the RPWindow is a copy of the family group sheet of the person you had highlighted on the regular page. Then on the right it asks: Send as PDF Send as CSV Send as RTF Send as Image Cancel Help [if needed] Then it opens a Save as Window so you can save to your hard drive. You then open an e-mail and attach it to the email to send it. ALSO in the Share choice You can Export Family Group Sheet " " " Individual Report " " " Photo Album " " " Relationship chart Report Preview window opens.. Have same choices as the Send as.. except it says Export As PDF etc., with an extra choice of sending it as a html page. When you choose how to Export it: It opens a window that you make choices in and it puts it on your hard drive. The only one I understood in quick glance was the RTF and it wants you to save it to the hard drive like the Send as. 2. Dear Good Prince Terry of the west, I plan on doing lessons again on the FTM2009 this year to help folks out. That was a good idea. And you can make a book as small as a family sheet page and a descendants chart... or as big as you want... It is really quite simple.. I made a quick one that I took to the reunion without hard cover on my FTM2009, and printed then stapled on the side..and it was 14 pages.. it had a chart of my mom's family down to my grandparents. It had a descendant chart of the same, plus some pictures. Hugs Cuz B [email protected] http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/ "'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. 2. The CVS is the drug store that took over Eckerd's drug store.. but CVS, Walgreen's and Wal-Mart that have photo area's in their stores all do this book thing. BUT I found if you load and work it on line at one of those places... it takes days and sometimes weeks to get it to the store for you to pick up...BUT if you take your zip of the images to the store you can work on it there and they print it right then in about a 1/2 hour. When you hit the "Print Screen" key, you can't tell it has done anything, until you go to some other program and "Paste" it in to it. 3. Becky: FTM has a lot of good menus that can give you a look at the trees in different ways, and you can print them out for reading. How do you put those outputs into an EMAIL so that the recipient can save and manipulate them, like revising a WORD document? I tried copying the printouts with my copier, which then allows attachment to EMAIL, but it copies text in picture format which you cannot edit. An example would be that if you had someone's way back family tree, and you wanted to send it to them so that they could make changes or add portions that only they know, for return to you? I agree 100% with what you said about importing pictures and documents into FTM 2009...it is so easy and it works great!? A while back, I decided to start importing in census records for every year I had them for each individual.? So far I have done dozens, and it is so nice to have the actual copy in the Media file for that person.? You can then click on it and enlarge or print, or e-mail it to someone else.? ????? I have also been scanning many other documents and pictures and also importing into the Media files....once your learn to do it, it is fantastic.? I am now scanning marriage and death certificates, military records, maps...in short anything that is of value.? And with much larger storage now available on computers, that is no longer a problem with lots of large files.? I even bought a new Canon Elph camera that has an optional 8 gb card in it...it will hold like 10,000 pictures of a modest resolution. ????? For any of those that still have not made the change to FTM 2009, both Becky and I heartily encourage you to do it.......I also suggest subscribing to Ancestry.com as they have so many great records and documents online;? on FTM once you take a little time to get used to it, you will never go back and mine works seamlessly now...........and the new version also has back the book organizing and writing program.....makes it very easy for you to put together and publish your own little genealogy projects to give to family members............very nice...it even puts together an index of all people you show in your book! ??????????????????????? Prince Terry of the West -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected]; Winn-L Genealogy <[email protected]> Sent: Tue, Jun 23, 2009 8:01 am Subject: [WGS] Creating a image for your FTM2009 Dear Cuz's, In the FamilyTree Maker 2009, you can put your pictures of your documents in the Media file, as well as picture images. If you are using Ancestry.com you can save the original image to your hard drive then you can open your FTM 2009 and put that image into your Media section on each person it pertains to... so you will not only have the verbal information in your source file, but an actual image of that document... sure saves time digging into your paper files, and also saves the wear and tear on the paper files to double check things. Ok... now one thing in the Ancestry.com website that is not an original image is the Social Security Death Index's..... For the more savvy of the computer wiz's... you can take a "Print Screen", and open it in your program where you edit your photo's. Then you can "Crop" it to remove all but the actual text from that webpage. Then you can load it into your FTM2009 as a image in your media file.. that way you have a image back up of what was said.... I love this!!! It then assures me that I had not typed in a date wrong or what ever. If you don't know how to do this in your photo editing program, and have Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Print Shop Pro 5, I can help you with instructions on how to crop the image. If you don't know what the "Print Screen" gizmo is... I will explain here: On your computer keyboard, there is a button, which is usually on the top row of keys and mine says "Print Screen SysRq" on my other keyboard it says the same thing.. so I believe it universally says this on most keyboards. How to use this "Print Screen" gizmo button. When you push or click on the "Print Screen" button, it takes a snap shop of your Computer Monitor screen, just like a camera taking a picture. It stores this on your Computer hard drive in the "Clip board", which is a place where things are temporarily saved when you do this "Print Screen" button, or when you use the "Cut" and "Paste" keys or when you use the "Copy" and "Paste" ke ys... it is a temporary storage area. One thing to note.. it will only hold it there until, you use one of the "Print Screen", "Copy" or "Cut" buttons again... then that image replaces it.. it only holds one image at a time and you can only retrieve it by hitting the "Paste" button, OR....opening it in your Image editing program. In Adobe Photoshop which I use the most... You do the following: ~Open Ancestry.com, ~Go to the Social Security Death Index or person you are wanting to copy the information from. ~Hit "Print Screen". ~Open Adobe Photoshop, ~Click "File", ~Click "New", the new image box opens and it already has width and depth information in it because it has already loaded the "Print Screen" image information in there. Click OK, ~Blank new image opens ~Click "Edit" ~Click "Paste", It will open a image which is the image of your Monitor Screen with the Ancestry.com page opened to the Social Security Page of the person you wanted to copy the information on, into that new blank image. ~Click on your Rectangular Marquee Tool option ~Draw a Rectangle around the Social Security Page part of the image. ~Click Image in top row of options ~Click CROP, it will crop your image so only the SS Page info is now remaining in the image. The image will be only the size of the SS Page info. ~Click File ~Click Save As ~Choose File Type Jpg ~Choose where you want to save it ~Title the image SS Index whom ever, or what ever you want to name it. ~Click Save Now you have a image on your hard drive of that SS Index of that person..and can now save it in your FTM2009 as a image of that information, which you can use to back up that source. If that doesn't make sense, then give me a call. Hugs Cuz Becky [email protected] http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/ "'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. 3. I tried that useless Print Scr Sys Rq button according to your instructions, Becky and it worked!!! Woo Hoo! I am now beside myself!! That ole useless button is now going to become my new best friend! Your description of the '09 FTM sounds pretty good too. Looks like I'm going to be upgrading real soon. I really like the idea of all the documents WITH the person in your FTM so that paper copies don't get lost or misfiled, etc. The book you just described sounds interesting and I'm hoping you will be bringing something like it to the Fort Wayne reunion. We don't have a CVS here, not quite sure what that is, but we do have Staples.I'll check into what they have to offer. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done with your book. 2. Becky-- ????? 2. Dear Cuz's, Something I just did with my FTM2009 this past week for my mom's family reunion auction, was create a book. Then I took it another step... After I created the book with all the images I wanted, I took an Scanned in HIGH resolution the images, on to my hard drive. Then I took my handy dandy little bitty flash drive that fits in your pocket and saved those files to it. I then went to CVS and plugged that flash drive into their photo book machine and spent 30 minutes putting it in order on their machine... and had them make me a HARD BACK book of all the pages on Photopaper..... I took the hard back book to the family auction and it got 200.00 for our next reunion!!!! Now how was that for a great way to give a book to someone and it only cost me $14.99 for the 8x12 hard back book. I love the new technology. 2. Dear Good Prince Terry of the West You are absolutely correct. I love it, I love it, I love it... And the only bug to me is not having the descendents chart with out the boxes, from person to person, but I hope that is coming soon... so for now we have to deal with the boxes..big deal. I put everything in my FTM2009, so that I do not have to dig in the boxes once I have entered the information. That way the documents stay un-touched as much as possible, avoiding possible paper damage. PLUS if you have a fire or you have a flood... you can always grab your outside back up hard drive with one hand and run..and know that you have ALL your stuff safe... it isn't the originals but at least you wont loose everything.
