    2. Becky-- ???? Thanks....this is like having our own private tutor for Family Tree Maker, and I sure hope many of you are trying at least some of this.? I am putting together my own family book right now, and it is up to about 70 pages....a mix of text, photos, documents, all divided by generation into chapters.........lots of fun and will my cousins be wowed when they get it!! ?????????????????????????????????????????? Prince Terry of the West -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected]; Winn-L Genealogy <[email protected]> Sent: Tue, Jul 7, 2009 1:32 pm Subject: [WGS] FTM 2009 - Bookmarks Dear Cuz's, FamilyTree Maker genealogy program 2009 has a "Bookmarks" section below the index. I have several family lines that I work, my FTM database has Dr. Thomas Wynne as my home person, as most questions asked of me start with him. You can now put in "Bookmarks" on the people you go to all the time. This is a quick way to get there with out typing in their name exactly over and over. "Bookmarks" puts a gold book next to the person's name and puts them also in a separate index called "Bookmarks" so you can go to them fast. Yes they leave them in the main one, but also add them to a separate one called "Bookmarks". So once I have "Bookmarked" some one, in the future I can just go to the "Bookmark" part of the Family tab, click on it, and then click the person I want to go to fast. This is GREAT!!! BOOKMARKS - To view the Bookmarks list Click People > Family. At the bottom of the Index panel, click Bookmarks. The Bookmarks list replaces the Index. To bookmark a name In the Index-Right-click a name, then click Add Bookmark. In the Pedigree View-Right-click a name in the view, then click Add Bookmark. To remove a bookmark Click People > Family > Bookmarks. Right-click the name, then click Delete Bookmark. 1. [WGS] FTM 2009 - Index
    2. Dear Cuz's, In FamilyTree Maker genealogy Program 2009, the have a section which is called "INDEX" ................................................................. To open the Index in the People workspace: Click People > Family. If the Index is not open in the List pane, click Index at the bottom of the pane. The Index will be located in the left hand section of your window pane. [It is a alpha list of names in your program file] ..................................................................................................... The Index lists every person recorded in your tree. To help you quickly locate a person, you can sort the Index by name or event It sorts several ways: [mine is sorted in: Family, Given Name order] ~Family Given Name - Wynn, Rebecca Naomi ~Given Family Name - Rebecca Naomi Wynn ~Birth Date - Sorts by birth date, then throws everyone who doesn't have one at the bottom in alpha order ~Death Date - Sorts everyone by Death date, then throws everyone who doesn't have one at the bottom in alpha order. Filter - I don't have the guts to go there. Hope this helps! Hugs Cuz Becky [email protected] http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/ "'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. 1. [WGS] FTM 2009 - Suffix's
    2. Dear Cuz's, Back when I first started putting sources in my computer program [FamilyTree Maker] I tried to put in suffix's, to help me to identify the people better. Problem is... once you put that in the name space and then go to the index.. you found that the person was sorted by Jr. or Sr. or Dr. not by their last name. SIGH... and then a BIGGER SIGH... =) I went through various versions of how to deal with it... and finally came up with putting their suffix or nick name in brackets [Jr.] in between their first name and last. Well, GUESS WHAT!!! In the FTM 2009 program they FINALLY fixed that issue... Now you can put the suffix in with out it distorting their name, and it will sort in the index correctly and not grab the suffix as the sorting marker!!!! Instructions: Type in persons name in the "NAME" box, located either a. in right hand section, if person is already entered. b. in the "add child" or "add spouse" box to connect them to the family. Once the "Name" box is created and displayed in the right hand section of FTM program page. Click on the edit symbol, to the right of the name and it looks like a pencil, [opens the edit name box] In the "Edit Name" window, under "Name Details": there are three boxes: Given Names: [first and middle name] Surname: [last name, maiden name for females] Suffix: [Sir, Jr., Dr., MD., Sr., etc] Type in the correct name and Suffix Click OK This will put the person in the index correctly. Example: Sir Nicholas Beke Given name: Nicholas Surname: Beke Suffix: Sir Displays in the index as: Beke, Nicholas Sir that way you can figure out which one is which... I LOVE THIS!!!! 2. Greetings Wynn Day Lily Enthusiasts...Especially Cousin Joyce Gail who got this whole Wynn Day Lily "thing" going and Cousin Becky who took such a beautiful photo of her Wynn Day Lily: My Wynn Day Lily roots arrived on Wednesday. Apparently this coincided with my knee healing or I was incredibly inspired for that evening I first weeded the very neglected area then planted them on the incline along our side steps. I even shoveled holes using my left leg once or twice with nary a twinge. That night it rained. The cut tops of the lilies continue to look very healthy. The area will soon be worthy of the Wynn lilies for a church youth group is slated to come and weed as I've been unable to keep up with the outdoor work during my knee replacement recovery. To my intense joy I reached 108 degress of bend in the knee and yesterday officially "graduated" from physical therapy. Now for the year or two long wait for Wynn blooms. I do wonder about the "Wynne" Day Lily I found mentioned as a 1968 prize winner on a Nebraska Day Lily web site (as I recall). I haven't done any further research since seeing it mentioned. My memory is definitely impacted by the Vicodin in my system. Weaning is underway. I look forward to hearing the "Huzzahs" and the photo of your first bloom, Joyce Gail.
