Can anyone researching the Meadows family of Wyoming Co. tell me If there is information on a Mary Jane Meadows who may have taken up with Ulysses Grant White after 1890? It is family legend that Grant ran away with Mary Jane but it is unknown whether or not the couple stayed in the Wyoming (Herndon Mountain) Co area or left. Grant was married to Victoria Shrewsberry White and had five children before he ran out when his infant son, Sheridan was born. Grant was born to Abraham and Mary Garrison White about 1866. He is located in their household on the 1880 Wyoming Co. Census. Family legend also states that Grant and Mary Jane Meadows may have had some children out of wedlock. Grant is my great-great-grandfather and to this day no one in the family has ever heard from him again. I don't know where he would have died and where he might have been buried.
