>From my Civil War files. Thought someone may have an interest. Lee Hash James A. Gunnoe, born 7/18/1842 at Craney, s/o Andrew and Mary, married Hannah Acord, d/o Zur Acord and Sarah Oliver. James was as a 4th Corporal, Co. E, 190th VA Militia, CSA. He enlisted as a 3rd Sgt. in Co. C, 45th Battn. VA Inf. on 5/18/63, present on 4/1/64. WIA and taken POW on 10/19/64 at Cedar Creek. Admitted to U.S. Depot Field Hosp., Winchester, Va. Vulnus scoleptrum, compound fracture lower 3rd right fermur, leg amputated middle 3rd thigh on 10/23/64. Also served in Co. G, 2nd Virginia State Line. Lost his leg at the Battle of South Mountain according to family tradition. Postwar: Convicted of murder for the part he took in the killing of John Lester and Edley Whitt. James Gunnoe served as a Wyoming County School Teacher.
