According to Mrs. Bowman's book on the Hustory of Wyoming County, the first school taught in what would become Wyoming County was in the home of John Cooke, Jr by William Brooks in 1920. The threshing floor of the barn was the school room. At a Clearfork District School Board meeting in 1875, the school house know as "Shannon's Chapple" at Sun Hill was to be repaired and deed to the Board.
