    2. In 1904, the Eastern Cherokees won a judgement against the United States Government because of violations of the treaties of 1835 and 1836, and again in 1845. The payments were to go to all living persons who had been a member of the Eastern Cherokee Tribe at the time of the Treaties, or to their descendants if they were deceased. Over 46,000 people filed claims to their “rightful” portion of the claim, Anna Cook Bailey and Marinda Cook Horton being among them.
