>Hello I am researching my family lines in Wyoming County West Virginia and even before in became Wyoming County : Whitt Lester simpson mccomas Cox Sizemore Pendry McGuire Bell Belcher Mckinney They are a few others but, it would be nice to explore each area of Wyoming concerning the History. Like Who settle there first, what certain places in the area are named for and Census records, Church records, School records, pictures, bibles, stories, oral history is what I am looking for. Pictures of where things happen all around Wyoming County(even if they are no longer there or where something happen), even back when it was Wythe Co and so forth. I just got into doing family research and the best thing I like doing is interview the peolple who knew it, saw it, or parents passed it down to them. Yep Sherry, the Greens are a mess somewhat. We are not sure of their true orgin as several Greens were in the area at the same time. Maybe you can "connect" somhow to what I'm sending. Lee GREEN It is said the Green’s originated in England in the 12th Century. We find a John Green who came to America from Wiltshire England in about the year 1635 and settled in Massachusetts. Late in the 17th Century, William Green, a branch of the Nathaniel Greens, left England and arrived in Philadelphia. From there he went to New York where he first settled at Newtown on Long Island in the area of what is now Brooklyn. It was here he met and married Joanna Reeder in about the year 1692. William and his family later removed to Ewing, N.J. shortly before 1700. There he purchased 350 acres of land from the Severns and Brearly families and first occupied the wooden farmhouse on the Severn farm. William Green Sr. died June 16, 1722 in Trenton New Jersey and is buried in the Ewing Church Cemetery. Among the children of William Green Sr. and Joanna Reeder were: Richard; Joseph, William, Benjamin, John, Geremiah, Isaac, Joanna, Sarah, Esther, and Mary Green. William Green died June 16, 1722 in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey Geremiah Green, a son of William Green and Joanna Reeder, was born in Hunterdon County New Jersey where he married Joanna Hunt. In about the year 1762, Geremiah and his family, along with other families, removed as “The New Jersey Settlers” down the Old Wagon Road through Virginia to Rowan County North Carolina. Here they formed the “Jersey Settlement”. Shortly after their arrival, Geremiah Green was granted some 541 acres of land in November 1762. His grant was located on the waters of the Athus, also known as the Pee Dee River.. >From records and researchers, we note that Geremiah and Joanna had 7 known children: Richard who married Eleanor Sullivan, a daughter of E.C. Sullivan; Joanna “Hannah” married Landrine Eggers; Sarah married a Wilson; Jeremiah (Jr) married Polly Wiseman; John married Hannah Hunt on January 16, 1779, a daughter of Daniel Hunt; Isaac Green married Margaret ___; Stephen Green, a Tory, settled in Davidson County. Geremiah Green Sr. died prior to January 12, 1763, where on that date, the Rowan County Court ordered that Hannah Green, Richard Green and Isaac Green to be the administrators of his estate. (Hannah was the wife of John Green) Jeremiah Green, a son of Geremiah, married Mary “Polly” Wiseman October 31, 1775. They raised 11 children, among whom were Isaac who probably married Mary Booth December 22, 1793; Stephen; Richard who settled in the Blowing Rock community; Jeremiah Jr. who married Anne Hartley April 2, 1790; and John Green. John Green, who, as a Revolutionary War Veteran, was living in Yancy County at the home of James Buckhanon in 1840 at age 73. He received a pension October 22, 1832. In his application he failed to provide the names of his parents, however from family tradition he married Elizabeth Jones. John Green died June 2, 1853 at the home of Sidney Young leaving no widow. In 1856 his surviving children were James, Joseph, Arthur, Aaron and Isabella JOSHUA GREEN: Considerable research has been done on the lineage of Joshua Green who migrated into what is now Wyoming County with a large family. As yet there is no evidence on the ancestry of Joshua back to William Green and Joanna Reeder, or to their son Geremiah who settled in Yancy County, North Carolina. It has been said Joshua, born in about the year 1799, was a son of Stephen Green with no proof in fact that he was. It has been reported that Stephen had settled on the forks of the Yadkin River in 1786. However we find records of a Stephen Green who married Polly Buchanan in Wythe County, Virginia on June 9, 1790. He was not present there in the Tax Census for 1793. We do locate Drury, John, Joseph, Alasha, Joseph, Isaac and Ruben Green in Wythe County during that period. Isaac and Ruben were recorded north of Walkers Mountain during that Census with 4 horses. No land transactions have been found for a Green in that area. The afore Greens listed were without horses. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

When their subscriptions stopped coming, they did not know why. I personally had issues on my subscription that I did not receive, but it did not bother me because I knew the situation. It doesn't bother me now either, but I would suggest before anyone tries to rebuild the old subscription base, they should obtain Sally's files and send out explanations for what has happened and why it wont happen again. Otherwise, people will not have confidence in the project. Whichever way it goes, I will continue to support the effort with material for publication and as a subscriber. Would be very interested in the Wyoming County families newsletter. Families I am researching are: Belcher - specifically Abraham b. 1830 and son Noah b. 1864 married to Rhoda Roseanna Lambert Lambert - specifically Garrett and family Blakely - Hiram married to Keedy Robinson - daughter Siddy (Sidney) Blakely married to Abraham Belcher (2nd wife) Carter - Roseanna married to Garrett Lambert Russell - Martha (b. 1829) married to Garret Lambert Becklehimer - Abraham Belcher was originally Abraham Becklehimer - was adopted by John Belcher and went by name of Belcher - not sure who his mother and father was. Would love to find stories and information about these families. Since I live in Arkansas, I have been unable to get to WV libraries or even West Virginia. _____________________________________________ From: Jim Burgess [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, December 14, 2007 1:55 PM To: '[email protected]' Subject: Wyoming County Newsletter - A great idea Mike, I think that starting up the Wyoming County newsletter is a great idea. My Wyoming County families are Burgess, Browning, Toler, Riggins, Vance - also interested in the Blankenship, Belcher, Grimmett and several other families who are related to the Toler family. I would like to write a letter on Richard Toler and Elisha Toler and try to clean up that mess that I made. My web site is now up www.virginiasurnames.com The 1850 Wyoming County, Virginia Census is posted on the Logan County, Virginia recreated page. I need to get members of the list to help with updating the Wyoming County families. I know that Sally struggled for years with Families of Wyoming County. We need to support Matthew with this endeavor. I am more than willing to lend my hand. In recent years I have learned that many families in Wyoming County have Hanover County, Virginia and Franklin County, Virginia ties. If we study families with Wyoming county with Hanover and Franklin Counties I think we will find some special nuggets. We could have a lot of fun with this project. Thanks Jim Burgess www.virginiasurnames.com
