    3. According to Mrs. Bowman's book on the Hustory of Wyoming County, the first school taught in what would become Wyoming County was in the home of John Cooke, Jr by William Brooks in 1920. The threshing floor of the barn was the school room. At a Clearfork District School Board meeting in 1875, the school house know as "Shannon's Chapple" at Sun Hill was to be repaired and deed to the Board. 1. 1850 Virginia Census
    2. Glenn Belcher
    3. PLEASE FORWARD YOUR REPLY TO:::::::"Paul Redden" <redden@inna.net> Production has now started on the 1850 Census Free Schedule for Virginia with more to follow. These are available for Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Mac, and Unix. Windows readers are distributed on the CD while those for Mac and Unix platforms are available free of charge over the Internet. I use a high quality digital microfiche/microfilm scanner to scan the original microfilm directly at high resolution instead of reduced quality printouts. As a result, the printouts from these CDs are often better quality than printouts obtained directly from the microfilm using a standard microfilm printer. I digitally enhance the images and save them in a format that gives maximum quality for a given file size. Resolution is the greatest factor when deciphering digital images of old hand writing. The ability to zoom the image and make out the tiniest details of a letter can make all the difference in your interpretation. Common, low resolution, scans can miss thin lines and intersections or combine several lines into one. The image size on these CDs is chosen such that the maximum resolution is maintained while ensuring that an entire roll of microfilm will fit on one CD making it easy to use existing indexes created for the National Archives Microfilm series. Priced at just $9.95 per CD* +$2.50 Postage and Handling for first CD, $1 each additional 1850 High Resolution Virginia "Free Schedule" Set (51 CDs) only $495* when available (including Postage and handling) *Virginia Residents please add 4.5% sales tax Satisfaction Guaranteed or exchange for another CD of your choice! 1. ROOTSWEB IS NOW BLOCKING
    2. Glenn Belcher
    3. THIS IS FOR NOTIFICATION TO ALL ROOTSWEB MAILING LISTS From: listowners-announce@rootsweb.com Subject: RootsWeb now blocking attachments and HTML --------------------------------------- Hi, folks -- Well, it took almost two months longer than expected, but we're right now installing a SmartList hack that blocks file attachments (including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings. Sorry about the delay: things have been crazy around here. This note is to let you know how it works. When a member sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the member's message back to them, with a note at the very bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. A COPY OF THIS REJECTION MESSAGE WILL BE SENT TO OWNERS AS WELL! That's because the member may write back to you to complain or to ask for help, and it can be pretty confusing if they write a reply to a message that you never saw. So when you as the listowner suddenly start getting messages from YOURLIST-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com, quoting some ungodly HTML mess that you never saw before, don't be alarmed. :-) It just means the list server is rejecting a MIME message that was sent to your list, and that you may get a response from the poster. Attachments and HTML will be blocked from every list alike. Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative volunteer sysadmin and general hacker ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If anyone doesn't understand the logic and decision behind this new technical aspect of the RootsWeb Mailing Lists you're encouraged to contact your list owner at his address: Glenn commander@inetone.net ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
