    3. Lee, My SPENCER line goes back to James Spencer of Greenbrier vertran of War of 1812, described in military record as "indian" . James second wife was Mary Cook married in 1833 after the death of first wife Elizabeth Hopenstal. Does anybody have this Mary COOK in their records. She was mother of 9 children by James and Elizabeth was mother of 11. James fathered 20 children including 3 sets of twins. Also if you are in Christianburg and have a little extra time. I recieved the entry record of Captain James McDaniel's Copmpany out of there and there may be a clue to the parentage of Meredith Collins b. 1760 d. 1840 Pike Co. KY Any help greatly appreciated. Again thanks for sharing. Brenda LeeHash@aol.com wrote: > Lt. Col. Henry T. Cook, got it right this time.. > Rev Goode brings up something interesting about John Cooke. 3. I grew up on the site of the Indian Village on Indian Creek in Wyoming County. Descendants of Thomas Morgan were our neighbors. Is there any information in Goode's works on the family of Richard and Sallie Bartley Mullins? 3. Doris, Thanks a millon. Lee , I agree with the others. There are many of us who are disabled and can not travel to places were would like to research. Strolling through the old cemeteries, climbing over fences to reach them or thumbing through the dusty old archived books at courthouses are but a pleasant memory to me and many in nursing homes who do this as a hobby and it works to keep our mind active. Ever try getting research material on interlibrary loan? Most times I have had no success. My children managed to make me computerwise when I could no longer hold a pen or pencil. Now this old granny is surfing the web for info. and getting an new lease on life. You might upload just the right piece of the puzzle to help me figure out this Godfrey line. Thanks for sharing....... Brenda

    3. Lee, Thanks for the reply. Going backwardhere is what I have: Sylvanus Bailey Godfrey b. 6-17-1880 McDowell Co. WV d. 12-5-1949 Nicholas Co. WV Nickname "Dock" was an engineer on the logging train that ran through the mountains. married Clara Pfalzgraff 7-13-1907Parkersburg, WV (german war bride) son of Armour Lawson Godfrey Jr. Armour Lawson Godfrey Jr. b. 1850 Virginia Territory d. 1940 Mosseyrock, Wa.Lewis Co. married Louisa "Eliza" Jane COLLINS d/o Wm CollinsJr. and Nancy Lambert. I always thought that Amour Jr. was s/o of Armour L. Godfrey Sr. and Rebecca Lester but I contacted one of their children and this son said that Armour's mother 's first name was Margaret. Since this info differs from what I have I have had this line on hold. I joined this list to see if anybody can straighten these Armours out. I noticed in the census there are several. 2. For Connie Browning Sally Williams has part of the orig work but the minutes transcribed were from November 8, 1858 through Jan. 7, 1959. In front, and not part of the Church records, is an introduction of pioneering Baptist activity and comments of the Wyoming County activities. At the end there is a Brief Biography of several principal members of the Church inc: Isaac Bailey, Brooks, Edmund Browning, Clay. Sylvester Cook and others. There are several pictures of some families in this section. Had about 200 printed and they went fast. Thanks for your inquirey. Lee

    1. [WVWYOMIN] COOKE
    2. Lt. Col. Henry T. Cook, got it right this time.. Rev Goode brings up something interesting about John Cooke. Seems records may be found at Christiansburg of his appointment as a JP. If that info resides in their archives, one should expect additional Cooke files there. It would worthwhile for a good search. I looked for early Cook marriages in my database and found MANY Cooks in the mid to late 1700. Nothing connected his wife. It was said he was in the Shenandoah as a dentured servant. I'm not far from Staunton, a potential source. Need to go there anyway. When visiting my Mother, I always stop in Christiansburg. Should be that way next month or so and will look for John Cooke then. Thanks again Lee

    1. [WVWYOMIN] Morgan
    2. Sally, you asked about Rev. Goode's files on the Morgan Families. Here are some early ref. The family file is hugh and, if you wish will lated send attachment. This is what I find. There was a nice open space in a gap between Little Cub creek and Little Huff which looked like a garden. They called it Garden Gap from which this gap at the branch got its name. Rev. Floyd Morgan, a Primitive Baptist minister built his home near Garden Gap. Armor Lawson Godfrey, a pioneer, had a fine cold spring at the foot of a hill near Northspring branch from which gave the name to the first post office established in that section. In the year 1800 to 1802, Thomas Morgan and his brothers Sam and David, built a pole cabin or hunting lodge on the Guyandotte River at the mouth of a creek from which this stream got the name, Cabin Creek. Thomas Morgan became one of the first settlers in this County and settled just above Cabin Creek. Our fifth settler was Thomas Morgan who was married to Rachel Blankenship in Tazwell County and first settled on Bluestone River but sold out and came and settled on Indian Creek in1804, just above the site of Indian Village. Thos Morgan was a son of Abraham Morgan who was born in England and married Elizabeth Early and came to America and settled prior to the breaking out of the Revolutionary War 1n1775. They landed at Old Point Comfort and came and settled in Buford County where they reared theire children whose names were: Jonathan; David; Samuel; Thomas; Polly and Betsey. Thomas, David and Samuel settled in Wyoming County. Samuel settled below Thomas where the Indian Village stood. David Morgan settled on the mouth of Daves Branch where Baileysville is now located.

    1. Re: [WVWYOMIN] Goode
    2. OK Sally Williams, sounds good. When will you have out your next pub of Families of Wyoming County. Looking forward to that. As you know MANY families of Grayson County,Va., Ashe and Yancy North Carolina Counties migrated to Wyoming County after the Civil War. Reading Goodes notes I was surprised that so many went before like the Sizemores, Perdue, Rose and others. Looking around where they lived in Va. & NC and seeing the area of Wyoming County, I can wonder why they chose to migrate in that era. all the wildlife and fertle land. Pretty Ridge is beautiful Take care Lee
