Hi Millie, you are a jewell. Where do you find the time for all that research? You may have opened up some Wyo. Co. history on the Milam settler. If you have the time can you send what the ECAs have on this family. We wish to go as far back as possible with that line. Thanks again for ALL your efforts it is exciting. Lee Hash
Hi, Dr Thomas Walker rep one of the early Land Agencies. I believe Merry may have been a family menber. This was much earlier than our Rev. William Walker who was also the first minister of the Guyandotte Baptist Church. When returning to Christiansburg, I'll copy land grants etc of this Merry Walker. Lee
Hi Kathy, I am also descended from Shorten and Lavinia Smith. Their daughter Mary Polly married Eli Blankenship. I have also heard about Lavinia being part indian, but that is all. Do you have any more info on Lavinia, where she was from? All that I can find from anyone, is that she was from the Carolina areas. Thanks, Pam Blankenship Honaker ----Original Message Follows---- From: Ktdidyvgs@aol.com Reply-To: WVWYOMIN-L@rootsweb.com To: WVWYOMIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WVWYOMIN] Sizemore Family Date: Wed, 24 Nov 1999 23:33:41 EST MIME-Version: 1.0 Pat, I am also descended from Francis and Christina. Were there any Collins claims listed? Cathy
Do you have any information on whom Merry Walker might be? I have traced the Walkers into Caswell, NC, and have often wondered what led William, Sr. to come to Wyoming County with the ability to claim the large amount of acreage that he did in mid 1800's. According to Caswell researchers, William was the only one of the family to disappear from NC scene. I know he came to pastor Rockcastle. Does anyone know why or who knew him to call him to the church. I notice that Brownings are also present early at Rockcastle. With William's wife being Nancy Browning, were they the connection? Cathy
Hi Kathy, My ancestors also claimed Cherokee blood through Old Ned Sizemore and Dr. Johnny Gourd. From what I figure, the Sizemores were of the Cataba, a rouge tribe of the Cherokees. Should they have claimed tthrough the "Heart or Hart" lineage they may have been accepted. We call him "Old Ned" as there were lots of Neds down through the family. It was said thet Old Ned was the tory who was hung on the Tory Oak. I have depositions by my Hash ancestry from which valuable information was given about my family. Precious data there. There is a description of Johnny Gourd also. Thanks Lee
Hi Millie, Thats a great piece of history you have there. In many cases there were depositions taken by Guion and/or his reps. These depositions give lots of family info. Would it be much bother to copy these for the Lusk families ? that is if they did give depositions. These are valuable Thanks Lee
Kathy, Maybe you can clear up a question for me. We were always told that Christina died when Martha was about 12, then I hear that they were divorced. Evidently she didn't die as I have a copy of permission she wrote when Martha married Monterville Lusk in 1892. I remember Martha well as I was about 9 when she died.Perhaps we can swap some family photos. Any thoughts on this big mystery? Pat and Kathy, I am interested in your letter about Hanna Joanna Smith's mother and father, Shorten Smith and Lavenia. Where did you find information that said Lavenia was an indian.? I come down that Smith line and would love to document the indian. So can you help me by telling me where you found this information. I have over 12000 names in this family and yet have been able to document anyone being an indian. Help me out please. And Thanks for sharing. Virginia Smith (jni wren@aol.com)
Kathy, I am descended from Francis Mitchem and Christina Milam. We were always told that my great grandmother Martha Jane (Mitchem) Lusk was part Indian, but have been unable to verify this. Does this by chance tie in with your Mitchem's? Pat Ktdidyvgs@aol.com wrote: > Lee, I have Sizemores FOREVER.<lol> It's my grandmother's line. Using the microfim I went thru and abstracted all applicates who filed while residing in the States of Virginia-West Virginia-Kentucky. From these three states there are approximate 1700 for which I listed the application number, name, and state. I would be pleased to check this listing for any particular surname or share the entire listing. An example: #23377 Armour Lusk - WV #8160 Jane Lusk - WV #34714 Malinda Lusk - WV These are the only Lusk listings. In 1982 I purchased the Microfilm Publication M1104 Roll which contains the General Index and applications 1 thru 45 - the remaining applications are on 347 rolls of microfilm located at the National Archives(GSA) Washington, DC 20408; at that time photocopies could be obtained of individual applications upon request to the Civil Archives Division.-----Original Message----- From: Larry Daniels <uatwf@bright.net> To: WVWYOMIN-L@rootsweb.com <WVWYOMIN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, November 24, 1999 11:09 PM Subject: Re: [WVWYOMIN] Cooke Family >Kathy, >I am descended from Francis Mitchem and Christina Milam. The fund was to be distributed to all Eastern and Western Cherokee Indians living on 28th May 1906 or their descendants who could prove eligibility. The Applications are number 1 thru 45,857 representing a total of aboujt 90,000 individuals. The total persons enrolled were 30,820 of which 27,384 were in Indian Territory or West of the Mississippi River and 3,436 were in the Eastern Nation...the remaining approximately 2/3 were for various reasons rejected. The applications contain a wealth of genealogy information. -----Original Message----- From: Larry Daniels <uatwf@bright.net> To: WVWYOMIN-L@rootsweb.com <WVWYOMIN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, November 24, 1999 11:09 PM Subject: Re: [WVWYOMIN] Cooke Family >Kathy, >I am descended from Francis Mitchem and Christina Milam. To the List: Eastern Cherokee Applications of the U.S. Court of Claims l906-l909 The Cherokee Nation v. The United States.. The Eastern and Emigrant Cherokees v. The United States .. The Eastern Cherokee v. The United States These three court cases involved grievances arising out of various treaties between the Cherokee Indians and the United States Government. Lee, what is ECA [in regards to the application for admission to Indian nations]? Is it Eastern Cherokee?

Lee, I have Sizemores FOREVER.<lol> It's my grandmother's line. I have copies of some of the ECAs for the part that is mine. I've not been in touch with anyone who can identify the Indian (since government doesn't recognize Old Ned). In my own line the Indian blood comes through the Mitchem line. If anyone has specific questions...sing out! Kathy
Cathy, Just returned from Christiansburg where found ref: to John Cook land(s). Should have copied them but ran out of time. Was looking for my Hash data for the soon to be released Hash Family of Ashe County NC. Next trip I'll have a good look and have something to report. The times and dates concern me of John Cook, new data will help. A few days ago someone placed something on line about his being a Constable in Montgomery Co. Lee
Hi Cathy, aside from some projects for the Virginia Transportation Council and US Customs, I'm very busy in transcribing the minutes of the Guyandotte Baptist Church, Rev. G.P. Goodes Ledger and some stuff on the Civil War. Not a bad schedule for an old man. Thanks Lee
Hi Cathy, Sally is on this list and is very active. She just returned from a research trip back east Sally lives in California. Glad to see you on line, How have you been Lee
