Hi Sally Williams, Just received a copy of the Families of Wyoming County Vol. 13, Issue #3. It is PACKED with information on families of Wyoming Co. I did not know that some of the Sizemores removed from N.C. to Ky. Your several families of the Crany Community was very informative, and was also pleased that Ron Turner, an airline pilot, has republished the marriages of Wyoming Co. Now I can have my own copy. Spoke with his Dad a few years ago, wondering how he is doing. He was a co-writer of my Walker line in Boone Co. I do hope that folks will submit their family traditions of Civil War incidents as there are many stories such as Linda is researching including the one of Dave Meadows. These "family stories" are very important to history, and if not written and shared now, they will be lost forever in time. Thanks again for the issue, it is "good reading" on this rainy day. Millie: Do you have any Lester's on the list. Thanks M. Lester Clark
As the early Pioneer moved westward, new teritories were opened to serve these settlers. Counties were re-established to provide reprensentation to the "local" inhabitants. In most cases those records were transfered to the new County Seats, but not always. Thus you will find William Brooks and Nellie Cook marriage records recorded in Giles County Virginia. In 1776, Fincastle County Virginia was abolished and the Counties of Kentucky, Washington and Montgomery were created out of the territory thereof. The Upper Guyandotte Valley was then in Montgomery county. In 1786, Wythe County was created and probably embraced a part of Wyoming County territory reaching as far North as the Guyan River. In 1800, Tazwell County was created out of Wythe and Russell counties. This new county included Wyoming County territory on the south side of Guyandotte River, In 1860, Giles County was created out of Montgomery County on the North side of the river, that part of the boundary line touching Wyoming County In 1824, Logan County was created out of Giles, Tazwell, Kanawha and Cabell Counties and included all the headwaters of Guyandotte River to Flat Top Mountain and the North side of Sandy River On the 26th day of January, 1850, the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia passed an act, creating the County of Wyoming out of Logan County territory which embraced the entire upper Guyandotte.
Millie, Any Wood or Mathews?
Millie, Noticed in this post on the sample that it mentions Harvy Mullins. In 1880 census of McDowell Co. in the household of a Harvy Mullins resided a Arnetta Collins and a 2 year old Christine Collins. Arnetta is the sister of my ggrandfather Richard Collins. I have lost the Collins family between the 1870-80 census. Arnetta and Richard had a brother Alfred Collins and the children are supposely the children of John W. and Mary Edna Roark Collins. John W. lived near his brother William Collins b. 1806 Russell Co. Va., on the Tug Fork of Big Sandy River. Wm owned and operated a gristmill and was a primitive Baptist minister. Anyway.....I wondered if the Harvy Mullins could be one in the same? You did send me a Benjamin Collins. We believe that John W. Collins had a son Benjamin by his first wife and also that John W. Collins Jr.( again by first wife) also had a son named Benjamin. This one I will send for in hopes of getting more info. The Milam surname showes up in the family because my ggrandmother Fidella who married Richard Collins told her children before her death that her father was actually Andrew/Adison "andy" Milam. On Richard & Fidella's marriage record found in Summersville, Nicholas Co. it said that Fidella was born in Wyoming Co. but I have never found a record. Her mother was Catherine Taylor. There was a Milam family living in Craigsville, WV and rumor in the family was that Grandma Fidella was related to them. There is a picture of grandma Fidella on the "memories" page at my website. Any help finding a birth record For Fidella, or a tie into the Milam family would be greatly appreciated. Look at the photo...grandma was Native American. Millie, I have enjoyed reading the Mullins applications you sent me. Are there any other Mullins/Mullens, Bishop's, or Bartley's listed on the rolls. I checked out the one you posted on Lydia Mullins. I can't make a connection [yet]! Did you get the info I mailed you on the descendants of Richard "Dicky" and Sallie Bartley Mullins?
Lee, please explain how/why the Wyoming records are located in Christiansburg. I thought Christiansburg was in Montgomery County and wasn't aware that Wyoming had a past connection to Montgomery. Help!!
i received an e-mail sometime ago asking about Christina, it went on to say she had remarried a man named Pete Whitehead. I never got an answer to my request on this. Does anyone on the list have any info on this. Would be appreciated! Pat
If you go to the National Archives and Records Adninistration you can view every application and get the number to request a copy of the application. http://merrimack.nara.gov:80/cgi-bin/starfinder/2359/expert.txt click on link to digital copies and you can view all names. Norma Russie

Millie, Are any Butlers or Youngs, Carts, Murphys or Woods on your lists? I don't know where to look - any addresses?
Lee I don't have copies of the Lusk applications - using the application numbers you can order copies from the National Archives or locate a library that has ALL the microfilm. It has always been one of my "genealogy dreams" to view all 1700 applications but the way the application numbers run you would need access to all the films. My Cherokee research started because of my materal ancestors who lived near the reservation in N.C. My paternal ancestors(Hammonds-Mullens-Roberts) were in Wyoming County and never made any claims. I did send for the Mullens who made application from WV most of those try to go back to the Sizemores. So I have an odd collection but by no means a complete collection of these applications; they certainly are a great genealogy tool used in conjunction with additional research.
