Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DFC.2ACI/1586.1 Message Board Post: I am told by Mark Ruble, a descendant of George Ruble, that George did marry Mary Dils. George was born in 1753 and lived in Rockingham Co. Virginia at Brock's Gap, where he owned land. He sold parcels of his land in 1781, 1792, 1802, and 1805. His wife Catherine's name disappears from the land records after 1792. George appears on the tax lists for Rock. Co. through 1802, and by 1810 he is on the census for Wood Co. He is gone in 1820. We have found no record of George Ruble and Mary Dils' marriage, but it must have occurred after 1810, based on the census records, as you have seen. Mary Ruble's will, probated in Dec 1815, names devisees: Lewis (son), Wm. Dils (son, deceased), Anna Dils Lyons (daughter), Elizabeth Stephens (daughter), and Mary Dils Dean (daughter). Another record for Mary, also probated in 1815, lists as devisees: Henry Dils (son), William Dils heirs, John Dils (son), Ann Tyon (daughter), Elizabeth (daughter), and Mary Dean (daughter). Witnesses for both documents were John Barnett/(Barrett), John Dixon, and Samuel Barne/(Barrett). (This information is from a transcription on microfilm at West Virginia University.) George Ruble is believed to have died about 1814. There is an appraisal of his estate dated 1814 (Wood County Will Book 1-A, p. 198-200, Inventory & Appraisal), and his will was settled in 1816 (Wood County Will Book 1-A, p. 192-93, Settlement). I haven't seen these documents, but there may be mention of his widow Mary in these records. George is said to have had a son Isaac who doesn't appear in Wood Co. Does anyone know anything about Isaac? My interest in this family is to find the parents of Frances/Fanny Ruble b. ca 1806-10 in Virginia, living in Shenandoah Co. in 1829, not far from where George's family lived in Rockingham Co. until about 1802.
