For the person who was asking about the names PHELPS and SHEPERD... There are entries for James, Elijah, Hugh, and John PHELPS on the 1801 through 1811 Wood County, VA tax lists. In 1801, Hugh was listed with 4 "tythables"; then in 1802 the entry was for 3 "tythables"; and 1803 his entry says just 1 "tythable. James, Elijah, and John were listed with 1 "tythable" for each year 1801-1811 The first tax list entry for SHEPHERD is for Jonathan in 1807 and continues through 1811. There is an entry for a James SHEPHERD in 1809.
