In 1873 Wood was in WV not Va. You can find the records at 3 different places. The Wood Co. I do know there was an Ash family living at Rockport because we moved to the Ash farm around 1950 but don't know who the family was I can also tell you that the farm was taken by I-77 when it was built Hope this helps MJ

Could anyone help me. I have a family of Ash that I believe came from either Wood or Wirt Co. Leroy Ash born 16 Dec 1891 and died 14 Mar 1982, married Charity Ann Nutter, dau of William Nutter and Alice Bumgarner. Can anyone tell me who the parents of Leroy Ash were?? Were they tied into the Harrison/Doddridge Co. Ash family? She was married to Elijah McClain. She'd be born about 1856 and she died, according to her husbands obit, "several years before" him. He died in 1923 in Athens County, living with his son Linzy McClain. Elijah and Lizzie McClain had several children. One daughter, Electa June McClain Marks, died in Parkersburg, WV in 1928. (If anybody has this obit I'd love a copy!) Electa June Marks had a daughter from a previous marriage, Myrtle Amelia McBride, b. 1900. Myrtle McBride married Otto Clifton Baum in Wood County, WV 4/29/1922. All three of their children were born in Wood County, WV. I know that Lizzie McClain died in West Virginia because my great grandfather (Charles Curtis McClain) told the story of going to WV when she (his mother) died. He lived in Athens County Ohio. I'm hoping maybe Lizzie was staying with her daughter or other relatives in parkersburg when she passed away. If anyone has any info on thi! s family line, I'd certainly appreciate it. His oldest son Henry listed him as being from Ohio. He served with the 17-th infanry Regiment (Union). There is no trace of him after 1865. He wasn't listed in the 1860 Census. Roberts. Barbara turned up in Indianapolis, IN where she married Joseph B. Okey in 1858. Census records show he also lived for a time in Wood Co., WV, though he was originally from Delaware. Whether or not the rest of the Roberts family also moved to Indy is not presently known.

I have bits and pieces of information, which I may now be able to tie together with some help. Mary was born in Coppertown, Ostego Co., NY on July 9, 1837. In the 1850 Ostego Census, there is a Mary Lerow living with Thomas T. and Caroline Davison. Could Caroline be 'Carrie' and be Mary's sister, d's/o Alexander Lerow and Mercy Pack? Did Mary live with her sister Caroline/Carrie after Alexander's second marriage to Margaret ____ and the birth of their daugther Luella,[who died in 1851 at the age of 3yr 8 months]?? Mary married Samuel Stebbins in 1855 in NY and moved to Parkersburg in the 1860's...one of their daughter's was named Carrie; they also had Emma, Lee[Lerow] and Ella. Mary died in Parkersburg, WV Sept 21, 1939 at the age of 102. Since Lerow/Leroe is not a real common name, it appears, in NY in the 1840's, I feel this is a very definite connection which just needs a little help to establish. Many questions!
