    1. [WVWOOD] SHEPPEARD, PHELPS--early 19c
    2. Hello: I'm new to the List and am not certain my recent posting at the Shepard family web site passed through to WVWOOD. Anyway: I am very eager for anything on the parentage, siblings, ancestry of Dr. JAMES WILLIAM SHEPPEARD, b. Wood County 1822, or his early life there and/or in Marietta, OH and Wirt County, VA.; and ditto for RUTH LUCINDA PHELPS who was married to Dr. Sheppeard at Parkersburg Nov 22 1843. They were my G G grandparents. The doctor became a significant pioneer figure in two Kansas counties; I know about their later life and children, but absolutely nothing of their background in WV, then VA, and earlier. As I also don't know when the unusual SHEPPEARD spelling began, I'd be glad to hear of any SHEPARDs, SHEPPERDs etc. OF ANY SPELLING whose ancestry dates to early 19-c Wood County. I note SHEPPARD names at the Mineral Wells cemetery. Does anyone know Mineral Wells well? Info about Dr. W.A.M. Reed, under whom Dr. SHEPPEARD studied medicine in Wood Co.,presumably around 1840, might also be helpful. Thanks so much for any and all help... Ann in N.C.

    1. [WVWOOD] E. European Immigrants to Wood Cty before 1900-1910
    2. Hello, I was wondering if anybody knows whether there existed a large or small immigrant community in Wood County (Parkersburg) prior to about 1910. I have a family from Poland/Russia/Lithuania who were said to have lived in Parkersburg before 1910, but likely between 1890-1900. The first immigrated to Baltimore, then to Wood County, and then were back in Baltimore in 1900. If anybody has any information on the historical background, I would appreciate it. E. Raemore

Surnames: Edgerton, Edingdon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DFC.2ACI/2306 Message Board Post: I'm searching for information on the family of James W. Edgerton. He reported he was born in 1834 or thereabouts in Wood Co, WVA when he married in Nelson Co, KY. I could not find evidence of a family of the same surname spelling in the Wood Co censuses but I did find a John Edingdon family in the 1830 census. They didn't appear in the 1840 or 1850 censuses, so I presume they moved on. Any and all assistance with James and his family is greatly appreciated.
