    1. DNA study – REED/ REID/ READ
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Reed Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DFC.2ACI/2532 Message Board Post: For those who have unfortunately run into a genealogical "brick wall" concerning your Reed/Reid/Read ancestor, science and technology has recently provided us with a very exciting and potent tool to aid us in our long-standing quest for identifying our ancestral heritage. To this end, the Reed Y-chromosome DNA Project was launched last year and is now up to twenty participants and counting. So if you, or a male relative of yours (father, husband, brother, cousin, etc.) have the surname of Reed (or any variant spelling), and descend from any of the Reed/Reid/Read families of early Wood Co., WV, then it might be something you’d want to take a look at. Results thus far in the ongoing project are posted at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/reed/. As a sidenote, for any potential participants who may be the least bit concerned about privacy-related issues, these are fully addressed within the links associated with the above web site. And since this international study only deals with a very tiny, and specific, segment of the entire DNA sequence, it can only be used to aid in scientifically confirming the degree of relatedness between the many Reed/Reid/Read, etc. study participants - merely to help us determine which participant we share a common Reed/Reid/Read, etc. ancestor with (if any), and estimate how many generations back this event likely occurred. In fact, this study has already allowed me to eliminate a couple of long-standing, potential Reed ancestors off of my own list, so that I am now able to focus on the remaining potential lines that I've assimilated in my many years of research to date. And obviously, as more and more study results (and hopefully matches, or near matches) come in from worldwide participants, our search can be even further narrowed, thus bringing us closer to scientifically identifying our "true" ancestral line, as well as their country of origin, etc., if we're fortunate. So, by all means, please participate if you can and see the above link for further details. A mere twelve (12) y-DNA marker test should be quite sufficient for now. Best wishes, Bob P.S. The aforementioned web site may also be referenced for a list of all "other" DNA -surname projects (hundreds) presently underway. Check it out; it'll be worth your while.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DFC.2ACI/2521.1 Message Board Post: Could not get this e-mailed to you. When Mr House listed some marriages by surnames he had this: GLAZE, John -Anna Woolf-1813. John, Archart and Henry Glaze were brothers. Probably George and Elizabeth were of the same family. John Glaze owned in 1804 the land at Glaze's Run, but I find nothing to show that he ever lived on it. GLAZE, Archart--Sally Deputy--1814. He owned land and presumably, lived a short distance below Rowell's Run, on the south side, in 1818. He had bought as early as 1811. This wife was doubtless a sister of Andrew and John Deputy. GLAZE, Elizabeth--Michael Greene---1814 GLAZE, George --Elizabeth Lee--1816 -------------------------------------------------- Anna Woolf was the daughter of Reece Woolf. "Reece Woolf, sometimes spelled Reese--was a native od Delaware, and of Swedish or other Scandinavian descent. He came to the Kanawha River in 1797, and located on land bought of Daniel Rowell.................................................................... On September 5th, 1826, Woolf traded this farm to one Gerald Fugate for sixty-six acres on Neal's Run............Woolf lived here until 1836, when he sold his place to John Phelps, and removed to Ohio. He died in Highland County, Ohio in his eighty-fifth year. Two different dates are given by biographers - 1846- and 1848."

Surnames: Wigal, Hoffman, Grimm Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DFC.2ACI/2524 Message Board Post: I'm trying to find information about William S. Wigal. He was my wife's great grandfather. I found him on the 1880 census for Wood Co. Steele district along with his father James G.( age 44) and his wife, Miriam Wigal (age 30). He is nineteen. There are six other siblings listed Leander F. 17; George M. 16; Sarah J. 12; Mary A. 8; Samuel F. 7; and Robert J. 5. On the 1900 Wood Co., census he (William S. age 39) lives in Tygart District along with wife Marinda M.( b. Aug 1861 age 38) and his daughter Clara B.(Blanche, b. Dec1889 age 10) and their son William H.( b. July 1895 age 4) On the 1910 Wood Co. census he is listed as being 48 married twice, this time for seven years. Mazie is his wife, age 46; married once for seven years; giving birth to two child both still living. There are three children listed Blanche age 20, Julia L. (my wife's grandmother) age 6 and Edwin L. age 5. What has me confused is that if he was only married twice, and Marinda and him are listed as being married five years and her having only one child and it still living. Who is Blanche's mother? If I could find him on the 1890 census for Wood Co (most likely Steele District) that might help solve some of the mystery. If anyone can help me with any information on William S. his daughter Clara Blanche, or his father James G. Wigal, I would greatly appreciated it. One thing more Blanche I believe married David H. Grimm somtime after 1910 and died before 1920. He is listed as William's son-n-law on the 1920 census and a widower
