    3. Wirt County Journal July 14, 1999 Remember When ... January 21, 1921 Accidents Mrs. S.E. Boler met with a very painful accident while on her way home from church Sunday night, January 16. She fell on the brick pavement on Washington Street in front of Rev. E.V. Black's breaking both bones of her left arm just above the wrist, as did also Rev. Metz fall at the same place Monday morning breaking his left arm just above the elbow. Caused by the walks being icy. Notice I have opened up a Cream Station at the Bailes store property at Elizabeth and will conduct it for the Fairmont Creamery Company of Columbus, Ohio. Dartington Thorn, Palestine Local and Personal Mrs. Lillie Wilson and daughter Geraldine, who have been in Oklahoma for the past year, returned to Elizabeth the latter part of last week for a short visit. Co. Agent W.E. Simson left Saturday evening to attend the Farmer's Week which is being held a the West Virginia University, Morgantown, this week. Evert Gurthie of Route 4 was transacting business in Elizabeth on Tuesday of this week. Oil Field Items Oil is on the downward bend. The Richter Oil Company is drilling a well on the Sant Snider farm on Three Mile Run. Guernsey Haught and Herbert Barnett, tool dressers who have been working in the Gilmer Co. oil field, passed through Elizabeth Saturday evening en route to their homes in Parkersburg. October 3, 1958 Randolph to Speak Here Next Week The Journal received word at press time Friday that Democratic Senatorial Candidate Jennings Randolph will speak at the Wirt County Court House in Elizabeth Saturday night, Oct. 11, at 8 o'clock. He will be the honored guest at a private reception at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Robert W. Coplin at 6 p.m. that evening. Dr. Coplin is county Democratic executive chairman. Mrs. Salmons Snake Bit Mrs. John (Lillian) Salmons of Rt. 4, City, was hospitalized as result of a copperhead snake bite on a foot at the back of her home on Thursday of last week. She was reported getting along better the middle of this week. Wirt County Republicans To Greet Sen. Hoblitzell Wirt County Republicans opened a headquarters for the current General election campaign in the small concrete block Roberts building between Roberts Store and Sturm Insurance Agency Tuesday of this week - building formerly occupied by Bea Foutty's Lunch, and which has been altered in a major way recently, by addition of a wash room and over-all repairs. You're Invited to Open House Demonstrations, music, movies and refreshments will be in store for all who will attend an "open house" occasion at Wirt County High School's new vocational building next Thursday evening, Oct. 9, from 7 to 9 o'clock. Leland Lee Family Toured to Florida Mr. and Mrs. Leland Lee of near Newark have been on vacation for the past couple of weeks, going to Chattanooga, Tenn., to join their daughter, Miss Jean Lee, who accompanied them on a 4,000-plus mile trip through the Southeast, including Sanibel Island, the Skyway Bridge, Melbourne, Fla.; and the Smokey Mountains; also many places of scenic and historic interest on the trip. Local and Personal Events of Interest to Wirt County Mrs. Maggie Lee, Mulberry St., City, has been quite ill for a couple of weeks past suffering more than usual with her heart condition. Her sister, Mrs. Autentia Taylor, who also resides there, remains about the same and has been bedfast most of the time for recent years. The O.F. Woodyard family of Palestine and Mrs. Oliver Daugherty have been helping care for them. A brother, Hollie Woodyard, also resides with Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Taylor. C.W. Carder of Munday entered Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, on Tuesday of last week as a medical patient. He was still a patient this week, but reported quite a bit improved. Mrs. Carder has been staying in Parkersburg during his hospitalization. Charlie Kidwell of Rt. 4, City, drove to Baltimore, Md., about four weeks ago for medical attention. Mrs. Anna B.
