Wirt County Journal August 4, 1999 Obituaries Edna D. Brown Edna Dorothy Walker Brown, 68, of College Parkway, Parkersburg, died July 28 at Harmar Place of Marietta. She was born in Turtle Creek, Pa., a daughter of the late Lamond and Margaret McGee Walker. She was a member of the Ben Bey Grottoette and Trinity United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John Boyd Brown; two sons, Ronald I. Brown of Bedford, Va., and Kent A. Brown of Mineral Wells; two daughters, Sandra J. Welch of Bowie, Md., and Laurie L. McKain of Vincent; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Elizabeth Forsyth of Monroeville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. Memorial services were held July 31 at North End Church of Christ with Eddie Cooper officiating. Arrangements were handled by Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Dr. Ralph Burton Dr. Ralph Burton, 85, of Marion, died July 16 at Marion General Hospital. He was born June 19, 1914, in Elizabeth, a son of the late Friend and Dora (Morehead) Burton. He married the former Helen McCullough in Covington, Ky., Dec. 18, 1943. He received his teaching certificate from Glenville State Teacher's College and a bachelor of science degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown. After teaching chemistry for two years in Cairo, he continued his education at Ohio State University where he earned his D.D.S. degree. He served his country in the U.S. Army Medical and Dental Corps stationed in the Pacific Theater. A resident of Marion for 53 years, he was dentist for 36 years until retirement in 1979. An active member of First Presbyterian Church, he sang in the chancel choir and served on many committees. He was a deacon and an elder. He was a member of Rotary for more than 50 years. He will always be known for his superb gardening skills. He was an avid OSU Buckeye football fan. He is survived by his wife, Helen Burton; one daughter, Fran Yerman of Marion; one son,- Jim Burton of Palmdale, Calif.; three grandsons, Colin Burton, David Yerman and Todd Yerman; and several nieces and nephews. Committal service was July 19 at Marion Cemetery Mausoleum and a service of remembrance followed at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sherwood A. Anderson officiating. Hughes-Allen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. John Jason Copen John Jason "Pool Man" Copen, 19, of Burning Springs, died July 27 at Charleston Area Medical Center. He was born Dec. 2, 1979, in Hinton, a son of Joann Rogers Copen of Burning Springs and the late Delmas E. Copen. He was a 1999 graduate of Wirt County High School, enjoyed motorcycles and was an avid fan of Ozzy Osbourne. He is survived by his mother; two brothers, Michael Frazier of Elizabeth and Matthew Copen of Burning Springs; two sisters, Stephanie Baxter of Belpre and Amy Copen of Burning Springs; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Hall Copen of Elizabeth; maternal grandmother, Enid Tichnell Rogers Moore of St. Marys; step maternal grandfather, Robert Moore of St. Marys; fiancee, Jennifer Auxier of Swartz Creek, Mich.; three nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; paternal grandfather, Arthur "Jack" Copen; maternal grandfather, Harold Rogers. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Owl Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Busch Funeral Home of Elizabeth. Wilbert T. Knight Wilbert T. Knight, 84, of Parkersburg, died July 28 at Charleston General Hospital. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late Gordon and Rosa Smith Knight. He was a member of the Lauckport Baptist Church, Eagles 2307, VFW Post 1212, DAV Chapter 6 and was a volunteer at Western Hills. He retired from the 0 Ames Co. He is survived by two sons, Guy Eugene Knight of Woodland, Va., and Gordon Michael Knight of Elizabeth; three daughters, Linda Fox of Marietta, Brenda Wilcoxen of Belpre and Kathy Knight of Belpre; several grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Knight of Cleveland; and two sisters, Marjorie Riggs of Barberton, Ohio, and Doreen Smith of Grantsville. He was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Terry; two grandchildren; and 10 brothers and sisters. Services were held July 31 at Ogdin-Kimes Funeral Home, north Parkersburg, with the Rev. David Brownfield officiating. Helen L. Nohe Helen Louise Nohe, 68, of Vienna, died unexpectedly July 6 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Vienna, a daughter of Eupha Sheppard Buck Romine of Vienna and the late Marvin M. Buck. She was a 1949 Parkersburg High School graduate and a member of Wesley Methodist Church in Vienna. She is survived by her husband, Jack A. Nohe; two daughters and son-in-law, Cathy Smith and Laura and Chuck Foster, all of Vienna; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lori Nohe, Jeff and Kristy Nohe, all of Williamstown, Greg and Judy Nohe of Marietta; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles "Lyle" and Jan Buck of Fayetteville, N.C.; and 14 grandchildren, Steve, Stephanie, Sara, Lindsay, Stephen, Clinton, Brittany, Allison, Julie, Holly, Andrew, Tiffany, Adam and Lacey. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Robert Burl Romine. Services were held July 9 at Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Tom Deane officiating. Entombment was in Sunset Memory Gardens.
