    3. Wirt County Journal July 14, 1999 Obituaries Charles Brown Sr. Charles E. Brown Sr., 88, of Hurricane, formerly of Mineral Wells, died July 7 in Bradford, Pa. He was born in Masontown. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church of Mineral Wells and more recently attended the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Hurricane. He was a lifelong farmer and was the farm superintendent at Hopemont Sanitarium for 37 years, where he retired. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Terra Alta. He was an avid gardener, farmer, outdoorsman and an animal lover. He resided in Mineral Wells from 1971-1995 before moving to Hurricane. He was a member of John Henson Senior Citizens Center of Hurricane. He is survived by his children, Edith Brown Urban and her husband Tom of Bradford, Pa., Ruby Brown Ruppel and her husband Jerry of Parkersburg, Charles Brown Jr; and his wife Sheila, Thomas Brown and his wife Sharon of Mineral Wells, Jerry Brown and his wife Brenda of Hurricane; several grandchildren, Teresa Patricoski of Alaska, Christopher Ruppel of Parkersburg, Phillip Urban of Cleveland, Thomas Brown of Texas, Robin Lewis of Hurricane, Kevin Brown of Newark, Beth Urban of Atlanta, Ga., Chad Brown of Mineral Wells and Rryan Brown of Hurricane; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Plum of Masontown; and two brothers, George Brown and Julius Brown, both of Masontown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Arthur and Sarah E. McDaniel Brown; his first wife, Louise Rector Brown; his second wife, Cora Rector Brown; two sisters; one brother; and one great-grandson. Services were held July 10 at Leavitt Funeral Home, Mineral Wells, with Pastor Chris Mullett officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Mineral Wells. Gladys Campbell Gladys D. Campbell, 89, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Parkersburg, died June 28 at Florida Hospital, Orlando. She was born June 26, 1910, in Creston, a daughter of the late Argayus and Ida Merrill Walker. She was the owner and operator of Campbell Beauty Shop on Market Street in Parkersburg for nearly 50 years and was past state president of the Master Barbers and Beauticians Association. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Orlando and had been a Florida resident since 1978. She is survived by one son, Carroll Campbell of Orlando; two sisters, Virginia Bower of Orlando and Florence Rogers of Ponta Gorda, Fla.; five grandchildren, Mark Campbell, Jann Campbell Collins, Tina Campbell Perrine, Mike Campbell and Allen Campbell; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Campbell. Memorial services were held July 10 at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with the Rev. Gary Walker officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery, Creston.
