Gault, Wirt County teachers, are teaching at Cora, Logan County, this state at salaries of $120 and $117-1/2 respectively per month. Several schools have had to close down on account of the cold snap this week. School Report Report of Lynn Camp School for first month is 8 follows: Pupils enrolled, boys 9, girls 13, total 22. Average attendance, boys 9, girls 13, total 22. Percent of attendance, boys 100, girls 99. September 5, 1958 Tanner Improved After Shot on Leg Art Tanner, popular young part-manager of the Tanner Tavern in Elizabeth, was accidentally shot in a leg and foot when a pistol fell and accidentally discharged Wednesday night last week near midnight. The injury required surgery, and he remained a patient in a Parkersburg hospital for exactly a week. He's back now, walking on crutches, and improving nicely. The incident was described as wholly accidental. Tanner knocking the pistol from a shelf when reaching for some article. Bumgarner Family Home All three of the children and families of Mr. and Mrs. Harry T. Bumgamer, Pike St., City, were home together recently meeting for a very enjoyable family reunion on Sunday, Aug. 17th. Smith Family Visited Smokey Mountain Area Mr. and Mrs. Roy Smith and daughters, Peggy and Linda, of Rt. 2, Palestine, spent from Saturday to Monday, weekend before last, in the area of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee and visited the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. Enrollment 410 At Wirt County, High Sam Williams, principal of Wirt County High School, announced Wednesday, the second day of the new 1958-59 school term, that the total enrollment was 410. The division, by grades, shows: 7th and 8th grades, 108; 9th grade, 73; 10th grade, 80; 11th grade, 81; and 12th grade (seniors), 68. Barberton Folks Visited Simmons Family Mrs. Clyde Simmons and daughter Elsie, of Barberton, O., have been spending two weeks vacation at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Simmons and children of Route 1, Palestine. All of them have been doing some sightseeing over West Virginia - went to Hawk's Nest on Sunday, Aug. 17, accompanied by Eddie Sheppard and Alice Carpenter. They visited at Burning Springs, where they formerly resided, and traveled through Virginia with Jack after a load of peaches weekend before last.
