    3. Wirt County Journal May 26, 1999 Obituaries Mary A. Backus Mary A. Backus, 49, of Parkersburg, died May 16 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 30,1949, a daughter of the late Thomas and Kathleen Morris Mays. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Jesse W. Backus; two sons, Michael Backus of Palestine and Robert Backus of Parkersburg; two daughters, Sandra and Terry Duley, both of Parkersburg; one sister, Teresa Mays of Parkersburg; four brothers, Steve, Carroll, Harry and Danny Mays, all of Parkersburg; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 19 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Jim Sims officiating. Entombment followed in Sunset Memory Gardens. Turner Enoch Turner Enoch, 85, of Palestine, died May 21 at Eldercare of Ripley. He was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Wirt County, a son of the late Alonzo Bert Enoch and Maggie Lockhart Enoch Roth. He was a farmer, carpenter and owner of Enoch Gulf Station and Enoch Restaurant in Elizabeth. He attended the Independent Fellowship Church, Ravenswood, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was a member of the Friendly Four Quartet and served as trustee of the Antioch Cemetery. He was a life long resident of Wirt County and enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Denver and Glenna Enoch of Harrisville, Donald and Dottie Enoch of Ravenswood, Charles and Donna Enoch of Middlebourne; one son-in-law, Chester Coe of Elizabeth; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Icy May Lockhart Enoch in 1980; one, daughter, Blanche Coe; and 12 brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held May 23 at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth with Pastor Allen Stewart officiating. Burial was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Wirt County. In lieu of other memorials, donations may be made to Wirt County Emergency Services, c/o Busch Funeral Home, P.O. Box 43, Elizabeth, W.Va. 26143.
