Ivan Owens took his auto to Parkersburg last week to have it repaired. G. A. Wilson, lockmaster at Lock 5, was a business visitor at Palestine last Saturday. Groundhogs are plentiful in our section. If you want a good feed come around. Olympia Notes Dry weather has been hard on corn and "spuds." Pribble Bros. have completed laying water lines from Faree farm to L. O. Kelly farm on Straight Creek and Superintendent Fox made a hurried trip to Parkersburg Friday last for "fittings." Jasper Haught has treated himself to a brand new Ford auto. Jim Kelly is off duty on account of getting some fingers badly cut with a cross cut saw. W. E. Pribble who was wounded in action in France has been awarded $80 per month compensation. Sam D. Hays, a good citizen of Macfarlan and handy all around man, installed a new engine and power water pump for Leviathan Oil Co. last week. Marriage Announcement We acknowledge receipt of the following marriage announcement. One of the contracting parties, Mr. Dawson, being formerly a Wirt County boy and has many former friends in this county who will be pleased to hear of his marriage. Mrs. Ella T. Stutler announces the marriage of her daughter, Tessie, to Mr. H. Frank Dawson, Monday, the second of August, nineteen hundred and twenty, Washington, D.C. at home after the first of October, Caracus, Venezuela, South America. Lucille Items We believe all the youths of our "burg" have whooping cough or expect to have. The writer counted 100 stacks of hay from Lucille to Roane County line with barns well filled and about 25 stacks yet to cut. The floor of the Lucille bridge has been repaired. The D. T. Dye oil well is down about 1,825 feet and no oil in sight yet. The poultry culling demonstration was held at Mr. F. F. Daniell's home. On account of being cream day at Reedy several of us did not get to attend. The report by telegram is that Gay Thomas, son of Evan Thomas of Zackville, was drowned in the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania on last Sunday, August 8. June 27, 1958 Aluminum Factory Leaders Express Interest in Elizabeth Speaking before a crowd of approximately 100 persons in the new Wirt High Vocational Building on Tuesday night, Lloyd Cook, president of Ravens Metals, Inc., a Parkersburg industrial firm specializing in aluminum products and other metals works, described a history of the growth of the aluminum industry in brief form, telling of its main start in 1942, and zooming to its present day major level. He expressed definite predictions for an even greater growth in the future. The speaker also described the organization, struggles and present status of Ravens Metals, now near the end of its second year in business. The firm is owned by stockholders primarily of the Parkersburg area of the Ohio Valley. Some local persons attending Tuesday's meeting may have come away disappointed that no announcement was made that a factory would be started here. That was not the purpose of the meeting. It was primarily to hear a discussion of some of the things that may eventually lead to such action. BOY BORN TO CUTLIPS Born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Cutlip of 3102 10th Ave., Vienna, W.Va., on Saturday, June 14,1958, a baby boy, weighting 6 lbs., 15 oz., and named Jeffrey Dean Cutlip. The mother was the former Miss Edna Hickman. Grandparents are Mrs. Cutlip of Webster Springs and Mr. and Mrs. B. N. Gibson of Parkersburg, who have been located at Harrisville temporarily. License Deadline Mon. Next Monday midnight, June 30, is the deadline for use of old license plates in West Virginia. Officials in Charleston issued warnings early this week that there would be no time extension granted this year. The license bureau was some 32,000 plates behind schedule, but expected to be about even by this weekend, by working five extra hours this Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Monroe Looks For Fun as Festival 'Belle' Mrs. G. R. (Frances) Monroe, Route 1, Creston, will represent Wirt County at one of West Virginia's most important annual meetings next week - the West Virginia Folk Festival at Glenville State College July 4-5. Six Wirt County Girls Attended Older 4-H Club Members Conference Wirt County girls attending the Older Youth Conference at Jackson's Mill near Weston all last week were Judie Busch, Ann Doty, Priscilla Roberts, Patricia Sams, Barbara Whited and Barbara Bailey. Registration was Monday afternoon, June 16, starting at 1:30 o'clock where the campers drew for cabins. They returned home Sunday.
