The local school will begin next Monday, Sept. 6, and the outlook is that there will be a full enrollment both in grades and high school. Oil Items Well no. 1 A. E. Buck Farm, Newark, was drilled in last week and a duster. Raymond Kidder left the first of this week to work in the Mexican Oil Fields. W. C. Clinton arrived home the latter part of last week from Tampico, Mexico, where he has been working in the oil field for the past several months. Neal O. Gibson, the fifteen-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Gibson of Vitrdite above Parkersburg, was drowned in the Ohio River last Sunday while in bathing. Dailey County Superintendent Local Personal Mrs. W. T. Cox had a bad fall on Tuesday which resulted in rebreaking a hip that had been broken by a fall about two years ago. Mrs. Draper Sheppard was a pleasant caller at the Journal office last Saturday morning while in town. Everette Somerville of Reedy District was transacting business and visiting in Elizabeth Saturday. Harvey Wilson returned Wednesday morning from a several week visit at Akron, O. July 11, 1958 L-K Nursery To Be Biggest in United States Lakin Burr, superintendent of the big new Little Kanawha Nursery now being established at Newark, re-emphasized the fact that the soon-to-established Holly Gardens will be "one of the showplaces of the United States." To illustrate his statement, he said there is one in New Jersey, which annually attracts approximately 30,000 visitors. "The one to be established here in Wirt County will be larger than that one." He told the group of 25 persons at the Lions Club meeting Monday evening. Mr. Burr stressed the need for improvement of a section of secondary road leading from Beulah Hill to the former Morrison Farm on the Little Kanawha River below Camp Barbe. "Uncle Charlie" Montgomery, City, returned last Saturday evening from the annual West Virginia Folk Festival at Glenville proudly wearing a handsome blue ribbon indicating the first prize honors he took in old-time ballad singing. MRS. WILLIAMS BACK FROM OHIO Mrs. Okey Williams returned to her home, Rt. 4, City, Thursday evening, July 3, after having visited since May 30 with her brother, Raymond (Jack) Whitehair and family, Akron, O. Jack and family and another brother, L.C. Whitehair, were here for the holiday weekend. CELEBRATES 77Th BIRTHDAY On Sunday, June 22, several relatives gathered at the home of CJ. Jones, Rt. 2, City. Upon his return from Sunday School at the noon hour, a delicious birthday dinner was given in his honor, it being his 77th birthday. Following the noon meal, those present enjoyed eating homemade ice cream and watermelon. GUESTS OF MOREHEADS Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Kilburn and son Arlyn, almost 2, of Lebanon, O., were here for the Fourth of July weekend, guests of Mrs. (Jean) Kilburn's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. (Willie) Morehead of Limestone Hill. Also, George Morehead and family, Detroit, Mich., have been spending two weeks vacation with the Moreheads and with Mrs. Pearl Somerville, City.
