    3. Wirt County Journal May 12, 1999 Obituaries Early A. Barber Early A. Barber, 84, of Belpre, died May 9 at his residence. He was born in Meigs County, a son of the late John Scott and Mary Levina Barber. He was employed by Universal Supply Co. as an electrical department manager. He was a member of Belpre Heights United Methodist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Helen Dovenbarger Barber; two sons, John A. Barber and wife Pat of Jacksonville, Fla., and Thomas L. Barber and wife Theresa of Daphne, Ala.; three daughters, Wanda J. Fink and husband Gene of Marietta, Lola D. Mercer and husband Jerry of Belpre and Georgia M. Holbert and husband Tom of Monroe, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters. Services will be at 1 p.m. today (May 12) at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Chapel of Remembrance. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Ten Commandments Mausoleum. Howard C. Elliott Howard C. Elliott, 74, of Woodridge Drive, Mineral Wells, died May 4 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Chillicothe, Ohio, a son of the late Shirley D. and Iva Dotson Elliott. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European theater where he was wounded in action in France. He was recently awarded the Liberation of France Medal from the French government in recognition of his service on France's 50th anniversary. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star with oak-leaf cluster. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 15 and 40 and 8 170, both of Parkersburg. He was a life member and past post commander of the Disabled American Veterans at-large in Florida and was past state commander of the Disabled American Veterans Department of West Virginia from 1954-55. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart 536, Bradenton, Fla., where he served two terms as post commander. He served as chief of state for the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Florida in 1994. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at-large, having served as post commander. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Bradenton and Victory Baptist Church of Grantsville. He was a resident for more than 20 years of Bradenton and Columbus. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Petty Elliott; one son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Mary Elliott of Columbus; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Cary Founds of Glouster, Ohio; four sisters, Lucille Hoce and Doris Carder, both of Parkersburg, Marjorie Starcher of College Corner, Ohio, and Shirley Ann Berlin of Houston, Texas; two grandsons, Jonathan Founds of Gastonia, N.C., and Joshua Elliott of Columbus; one great-grandson, David Brae Cooper of Fort Mill, S.C.; one sister-in-law, Pauline Tingley; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Dailey and Marcella Garrettson; one infant sister; and one grandson, Eric Founds. Services were held May 7 at Victory Baptist Church, Grantsville, with Pastor Mike Worf officiating. Entombment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Parkersburg, with military honors by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Arrangements were entrusted to the Busch Funeral Home of Elizabeth. Everett Mulinex Everett "Carl" Mulinex, 94, of Belpre, died May 7 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born April 5, 1905, in Wirt County, a son of the late Oliver and Amanda Lucas Mulinex. He was retired from O. Ames Co., and was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Mineral Wells. He is survived by two sons, Bernard and Ronald Mulinex, both of Elizabeth; three daughters, Delores M. Davis of Belpre, Verna J. Kimes of Barberton, Ohio, and Anita R. Yal of Parkersburg; one sister, Lola J. Starcher of Parkersburg; l5 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie Fordyce Mulinex; one son, Delbert; two half brothers; and one sister, Laura Sargent. Services were held May 10 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg, with the Rev. Jerry Cook officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Church Cemetery. Betty J. Sims Betty Joan Sims, 67, of Rt. 3, New England community, Washington, died April 24 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born in Parkersburg and was a lifelong homemaker. She was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church. She had also been a member of the Washington Farm Women's Club. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John B. Sims; one son and daughter-in-law, J. B. and Torie Sims of Washington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Charlie Smailes of Rainelle, Patricia and William Harris of Washington; six grandchildren, Casey Garner and husband Shayne of Washington, Holly Queen and husband Conan of Parkersburg, Wendy Sims and Benjamin Sims of Washington, Chad Smailes and C. J. Smailes, both of Rainelle; one sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Carlton Stephens of Washington; stepfather, D. M. "Tom" Thorne of Elizabeth; two stepsisters, Janet Martin of Elizabeth and Donna Rich of Chester, Va. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Sindledecker; and her mother, Ada Treadway Sindledecker Thorne. Services were held April 27 at Washington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard DeQuasie and Dr. Michael Stephens officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens. Arrangements were handled by Leavitt Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Dialysis Unit, St. Joseph's Hospital, 1824 Murdock Ave., Parkersburg, or to the transplant unit at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
