Wirt County Journal September 1, 1999 Obituaries Ruby C. Evans Ruby C. "Kate" Evans, 88, of Vienna, died August 25 at her residence. She was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Wirt County, a daughter of the late Leander Barr and Susan Sims Rader. She was a homemaker and a member of the Vienna Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Louise Fletcher of Vienna, with whom she made her home; two daughters-in-law, Patsy Pittman and Betty Slack, both of Vienna; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Evans; two sons, Robert and Paul Evans; one sister; and three brothers. Services were held August 28 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, with the Rev. Nathan E. Williams officiating. Burial was in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Bessie S. Hanna Bessie S. Hanna, 96, of Palestine, died August 26 at Worthington Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late George W. and Louie Annis Ward Smith. She was a member of Hill Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, C. J. "Spud" Hanna of Elizabeth, Bill Hanna and Glen Hanna, both of Parkersburg; five daughters, Mary Collins and Lois Sheppard, both of Palestine, Sharon Sprague of Witchia, Kansas, Betty Baldrige of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Virginia Criner of Titusville, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. C. Hanna; and children, Janet Tanner, Evah Ray Hanna and Jones V. Hanna. Services were August 28 at Hill Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Basnett officiating. Burial was in Hill Grove Cemetery. Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home of Elizabeth was in charge of arrangements. Douglas W. Jones Douglas Wayne Jones, 19, of Davisville, died August 28 at his residence. He was born in Wood County, a son of Paul Edward and Judy Williams Jones of Davisville. He was a 1999 graduate of Parkersburg High School, was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed camping. He was a former member of the Eastwood Volunteer Fire Department and had planned to attend truck driving school in Tennessee. He is survived by his parents; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Connie Jones of Walker; one brother, Jeff Jones of Davidson, N.C.; his paternal grandmother, Euleta Jones of Grantsville; one niece, Kaycee Jones and one nephew, J. P. Cox, both of Walker. He was preceded in death by three infant brothers, Gregory, Rodney and Keith Jones. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Sept. 1) at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with the Rev. Raymond Ray officiating. Burial will be in Big Bend Cemetery, Big Bend. Darrell Morgan Darrell W. Morgan, 64, of Tipp City, died August 27 at the Dayton VA Medical Center. He was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Elizabeth. He was a retired welder from Chrysler Corp. in Dayton and a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Imogene and Thomas Ramey of Tipp City, Charlotte and Thomas Smith of Paris, Tenn., Janet and Jerry Schwartz of Dayton, Wanda Ellison of Mineral Wells, Verna and Roger Philips, Sarah and John Hartford and Patty Bunner, all of Elizabeth, and Bonnie Hickman of Belpre; and five brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles "Jack" and Deloris Pickrell of Troy, Ronald and Betty Pickrell, John and Tish Pickrell, all of Dayton, Phillip and Susan Pickrell of West Milton, Lester and Cynthia Morgan of Mineral Wells. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Morgan and Leoda Ann (Daugherty) Pickrell; and one brother, Roger Pickrell. Services were held August 30 at Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City. Wilma J. Shrader Wilma J. Shrader, 63, of Creston, died August 26 at The Arbors of Marietta, Ohio. She was born Sept. 27, 1935, at Creston, a daughter of Nora Mowery Tucker of Creston and the late Roscoe Tucker. She was a 1954 graduate of Wirt County High School, attended the Creston United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and flowers. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband Jimmy E. Shrader; two sons, Jimmy "Ed" Shrader of Parkersburg and Danny D. Shrader of Linwood, N.C.; one daughter, Janimae Browning of Creston; one brother, Ronnie Tucker of Parkersburg; and one grand-daughter, Sierra Browning of Creston. She was preceded in death by one sister. Funeral services were August 28 at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with the Rev. Lewis Villers officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery, Creston. William Thompson William S. Thompson, 75, of Salem, Ohio, died August 26 at his home. He was born August 14, 1924, in Elizabeth, a son of the late Nathan and Nettie Cline Thompson. He moved to the Salem, Ohio, area in 1940. He retired in 1986 from Taylorcraft Manufacturing where he worked on aircraft assembly. He was a former member of Salem First Friends Church. He was a drag racer with NASCAR in Canton from approximately 1958-1962. He is survived by his companion, Gladys Spencer Thompson; three daughters, Robin Ickes of Homeworth, Ohio, Linda Ryan and Tina Anderson, both of Hanover, Ohio; one son, William R. Thompson of Salem, Ohio; two sisters, Edna Behner of Salem and Betty Morford of Summerton, S.C.; one brother, Denver Thompson of Dublin, Ga.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Wesley Thompson, in 1972; three sisters, Hazel Schmidt, Ruth Baird and Alma Smith; and one brother, Dempsey Thompson. Services were held at Grandview Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Al Voorhis officiating. Helen O. Waggoner Helen O. Davis Waggoner, 80, of Beckley, formerly of Pineville, died August 27 in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. She was born April 23, 1919, in Munday, a daughter of the late Abram Robert and Emma Blanche Richards Davis. She was a homemaker and a resident of the Beckley area for the past 25 years. She was a former resident of Pineville for 24 years. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leon "John" Waggoner; three sons, Adrian Waggoner and wife Nora of Pineville, Phillip Waggoner and wife Deborah of Miami and Robert Waggoner and wife Roger Ann of Pineville; three daughters, Carolyn Tyree of Charleston, Marilyn Spencer of Beckley and Janice Cook and husband Ralph of Pineville; three brothers, Lonnie Davis and Arland Davis, both of Parkersburg, and Warren Davis of Elizabeth; two sisters, Edith Busch of Harrisville and Hilda Snider of Martinsburg; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lorraine Kemp; one brother, Harvey Davis; and one son-in-law, Vincent Tyree. Services were August 30 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Ken Killen officiating. Burial followed in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Randall White Randall "Pup" White, 30, of Palestine, died August 26 at his residence. He was born in Wood County, a son of Floda Hanna Amburgey and the late Ralph White. He was a farmer in the Palestine area in Wirt County. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Dye White; two brothers, Richard White of Palestine and Ronald White of Spencer; three sisters, Nancy Moneypenny of Akron, Ohio, Anita White of Mineral Wells and Diane Whited of Spencer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Leonard Amburgey. Services at the convenience of the family. Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home of Elizabeth was in charge of arrangements. Elma K. Wilson Elma K. "Julie" Wilson, 79, of Mineral Wells, died August 28 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lavania Lynch Lockhart. She is survived by one sister, Irene Vanfossen of Parkersburg; one brother, Carl Lynch of Wirt County; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen 0. Wilson; four brothers; and three sisters. Services were held August 31 at New Home Church, Palestine. Burial was in Mayberry Cemetery. Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
