    3. Wirt County Journal June 5, 2002 Obituaries Gearold O. DeWitt Gearold O. DeWitt, 72, of Parkersburg, died Monday, May 27, 2002 in Camden-Clark Hospital after a three-year battle with cancer. Mr. DeWitt was born May 17, 1930, in Creston, the son of the late Violet Snyder Shaffer and stepfather, James F. Shaffer. Survivors include his son, James R. DeWitt; two grandsons, Richard S. and Michael J. DeWitt; and one great-grandson, Gage DeWitt, all of Canton, O., and two half-sisters, Linda Sampson and Joy Starcher of Mt. Zion. Mr. DeWitt donated his body to science and research. At his request, no service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Betty L. Ellison Betty L. Ellison, 63, of Elizabeth, died May 29, 2002, at CAMC in Charleston. She was born in Ritchie County, the daughter of the late Roy Lee and Katherine J. Moats Moneypenny. She was a member of the Elizabeth Church of the Nazarene and was an active member of the Wirt County Senior Citizens. Survivors include one son, Harold E. Ellison of Pettyville; three daughters, Joyce Foster of Reedy, Mary B. Ellison of Elizabeth and Junna Snyder of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Joseph L. Ellison and Jessica R. Wright of Elizabeth, Clifford G. Foster of Reedy and Kandi J. Ellison and Joshua S. Ellison of Pettyville; one sister, Veatrice Deem and one brother, Billy Moneypenny, both of Canton, O. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emery H. Ellison, and two brothers. Services were held Saturday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Whiteman officiating. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery in Harrisville. Anna Bell King Anna Bell King, 84, of Sebring, Fla., died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Lake Placid Healthcare Center, Lake Placid. She was born in Wirt County. She was a former owner of a grocery store in Parkersburg and a member of the Parkersburg Garden Club. She moved to Sebring in 1987 from Parkersburg and was a member of Buttonwood Bay Church. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Jim) Summers of Sebring; two grandchildren, David Summers of Bodo, Norway and Debra Weaver of Gastonia, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren. Services were held Monday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at Morris Funeral Chapel in Sebring. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Parkersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Buttonwood Bay Church or First Baptist Church of Lake Josephine and mailed to 463 Whippoorwill Dr., Sebring, FL 33875. Betty D. Wiltsey Betty D. Wiltsey, 73, of Vienna, died May 28, 2002, at Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg. She was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Vienna, a daughter of the late Russell Lee and Edna Seaman Hall. She worked 37 year's at Cox's Department Store and 10 years at Watsons Department Store. She was a member of the 36th Street Church of Christ and was an avid dog lover. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Townsend and one brother, Edward M. Hall, both of Elizabeth; one stepson, Joe Wiltsey and his wife, Diane of Vienna; three step-grandchildren; two-step-great grandchildren; a loving niece, Barbara Kirklind of Belpre; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Wiltsey; three sisters, Reba Berger, Elinor Lefty and Norma Altherr; and one brother, Russell Hall Jr. At her request, there will be no services. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wood County Humane Society.
