    3. Here's another take on the purple flowers? On both side of WV 5 at Burning Springs near the Masonic Lodge you will find a purple some times white flower 2 to 3 feet in height with a 3" to 4" cluster or cone of smaller flower on the top of the plant. According to Dr. Earl L. Core's, Flora of West Virginia this flower is from the Mustard Family, Hesperis Matronalis, Dame's Rocket. This maybe or may not be the same purple flower Jennifer has spoken about with a different common name. Dr. Core states "Matronly, from the old name, Mother of the Evening." Wildflowers have received many common names down through the years. If Dames Rocket as I know it is what you are looking for, try The Vermont Wildflower Farms now known as American Meadows seed number V00072, call 1-800-424-1165. Wildseed Farms 1-800-848-0078 Applewood Seed Co. does not show Dame's Rocket but maybe able to help. 303-431-7333 or check out their web site, www.applewoodseed.com Just another spin on thing! Jennifer I would love to know if we are talking about the same flower. Keith Lynch WV DOT Division of Highway Operation Wildflower Coordinator District Three If anyone is interested in donations for a wildflower plot in Honor or in Memory of, on I77 or US 50 please let me know. >From: Jennifer Johnston <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [WVWIRT] Back from Elizabeth (with some questions) >Date: Sat, 20 May 2000 21:40:23 -0400 > >Here's my take on purple flowers: > >I haven't been along the road in Wirt in a while, but I'd guess that the >purple flowers may be spiderwort.
