    3. Wirt County Journal December 22, 1999 Obituaries Ruth Crouser Ruth Crouser, 90, of Vienna, formerly of Wirt County, died Dec. 13, 1999, at her residence. She was a daughter of the late George and Margaret Gorman Barnhart. She was a member of the Burning Springs United Methodist Church and was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of the Elizabeth CEOS club. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joanna and Max Wilson of Vienna; two grandchildren, Ruth Sealey of Washington and William Wilson of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; three great-grandchildren, Erin, Wesley and Heather Wilson of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Crouser, three sisters, Jessie Yoast, Ada Mansell and Clara Winans, and three brothers, Charles, Fred and infant George Barnhart. Services were held Dec. 15 at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Wilbur Hardin officiating. Burial was in Evergreen North Cemetery, Parkersburg. Ethel M. Janic Ethel Marie Martin Janic, 85, of Worthington Manor, died Dec. 13, 1999, at Worthington Manor. She was born in Wirt County, a daughter of the late William and Kathryn Gillespie Martin. She was a homemaker and a member of the North Parkersburg Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Douglas Clevenger of Parkersburg and Michael and wife Judy Calahan of Mentor, Ohio; one daughter, Annette and husband Robert Moore of Linden, Texas; one brother, Robert Martin of Elizabeth; two sisters, Hazel Uhlman of Parkersburg and Bertha Steve of Fostoria, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Janic. Services were held Dec. 16 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery, Lubeck. Glenn Marcum Glen Marcum, 84, of Parkersburg, died Dec. 16, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Mingo County May 31, 1915. He was the son of the late William and Jane Marcum Marcum. He started working on automobiles at the age of 16 including Model T Fords. He previously owned Marcum Motors in Elizabeth for 20 years and raised cattle and sheep during the early years. He retired as an automobile mechanic. At the age of 80, he completely rebuilt at engine. He was a charter member of the Cornerstone Gospel Church. He is survived by two daughters, Norma Miller of Walker and Judy Cranfield of Sandyville; two sons, James W. "Bill" Davis and wife Jean and Russ Givens and wife Terral, both of Little Hocking, Ohio; three sisters, Roanna Meade, Opal Weise and Imogene Lowe, all of Mingo County; one foster sister, Yuvonne Hall of Vienna; two brothers, Thaddeus Marcum of Newark, Ohio, and William Arthur Marcum of Mingo County; two foster brothers, Aaron Sims of Palestine and Joe Sims of Parkersburg; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Pauline Alice Hurst Davis Marcum; one son, Timothy Glenn "T.G." Marcum; and one brother, Eli J. "Justine" Sims. Funeral services were at Cornerstone Gospel Church Dec. 20 with Pastor Mark D. Wilding officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at the Givens Cemetery, Little Hocking, Ohio. Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Bernard Perry Bernard Perry, 60, of Palestine, died Dec. 16, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Wayne County, a son of Garfield Perry of Chesapeake, Ohio, and the late Myrtle Billips. He enjoyed hunting and working his tire business, Perry's Tire Center. He was a member of the Snyder Chapel United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; two sons, Jason and Billy of the home; one daughter, Melody Swearingin of Grantsville; five brothers, Eugene and Delbert Napier, Alpha, Kenneth and Bill Perry, all of Wayne; four sisters, Ethel Collins, Garnet Maynard and Bonnie Plybon of Huntington and Rosa Watts of Chesapeake; and three grandsons, Zachary, Tyler and Ryan Swearingin. He was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn. Services were held Dec. 18 at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with the Revs. Farley Blankenship and Gallie Watts officiating. Burial was in Wayne County. Geraldean L. Petty Geraldean L. Petty, 90, of Murphysboro, Ill., died Dec. 15, 1999, at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County, Ill. She was born in Wirt County, a daughter of the late Sherman and Sara Ellen Holmes Petty. She was a teacher and began her career in Sanoma of Wirt County. She taught for many years in the educational system of the state of Ohio. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star 113 of Elizabeth and Delta Kappa Gamma. She is survived by one nephew, Ted Hupp and wife Vickie Hupp; and two great-nieces, Andrea McCrary of West Demoine, Iowa, and Stephanie Hupp of Murphysboro. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel V. Hupp and Carmen P. Gibson. Services were held Dec. 19 at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with the Rev. Lewis Villers officiating. Burial was in Hill Grove Cemetery. G. Satterfield Genevieve L. Satterfield, 86, of Parkersburg, died Dec. 18, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born April 1, 1913, in Wirt County, a daughter of the late Tom and Leelah Rowand Balderson. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed by the Viscose Corp., Morlang Meat Packing Co. and Wilson Grocery, all of Parkersburg. She was a member of the Sunrise Baptist Church in Parkersburg since 1950 and was an avid bowler. She is survived by one daughter, Lucy Harries of Parkersburg; one son, Larry Watkins of North Carolina; two stepsons, Kim Satterfield of Vienna and Jan Satterfield of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Esther Battin and Amilie McGary, both of Parkersburg; two brothers, Leon and Carl Balderson, both of Parkersburg; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Watkins; and her second husband, Ora Satterfield. Services were held Dec. 21 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Larry Crawford officiating. Burial was in Evergreen North Cemetery.
