We had a nice day in Wirt county on Friday. Did not get up to Buffalo church (weren't sure how good the road would be in the rain) but did go on Mayberry Run Road as far as Uncle Ray's house (Ray Givens). Stopped but no one was home. Does anyone know if Marge & Jess Bumgarner live there now? We went to the Mayberry Church cemetery (where Ray and Frances (Lynch) Givens are buried, Palestine cemetery (Uncle Hayes Givens), Dunkard (Archer graves) and Mt. Pisgah (more Givens). We were SUPRISED to find that Elizabeth hill was gone!!! Driving over Garfield road my husband remembered as a child visiting a Sims farm that had a pond and sure enough, we found it. Also saw a Archer place on that road. Does anyone know what Archers? Other questions Ed posed as we drove: 1. How did Pee Wee get its name? 2. Do people fish the Reedy and Little Kanawha? 3. What is the water source for the fire hydrants on these back roads? And I'd like to know what are the pretty purple flowers growing along the road. Mayberry is a nice, peaceful spot. We were both tired from driving and Ed has a heart condition and has to rest often, so he took a nap while I explored the cemetery! Joanne
