    3. Wirt County Journal January 5, 2000 Obituaries Fannie R. Belt Fannie R. Belt, 89, of Elizabeth, died Dec. 28, 1999, at Worthington Manor Care Center of Parkersburg. She was born in Marion County, a daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Copen Ledsome. She was an avid quilter and homebody and was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle of Elizabeth. She is survived by three sons, David and Oliver of Elizabeth and Warren of Mineral Wells; four daughters, Martha Lemon and Louise Echart of Parkersburg, Lava da Lindley of Brunswick, Ohio, and Joann Nemeth of Elizabeth; two half sisters, Glenna of Parkersburg and Mabel of Kentucky; 28 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grand-children; four stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Belt, in 1983; one son, Almond; and three grandchildren. Services were held Dec. 30 at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home of Elizabeth with the Rev. Tim Hopkins officiating. Burial was in Rector Cemetery of Wirt County. E. Arline Conger E. Arline Conger, 86, a resident of SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, Parkersburg, and formerly of 36th Street, Parkersburg, died Jan. 1, 2000, at the center. She was born in Wood County, a daughter of the late Marvin E. and Molly A. Majors Hardesty. She was a homemaker and Protestant by faith. She is survived by one daughter, Linda A. Chancey of Vienna; two stepdaughters, Patty Weldon of Vienna and Linda Mae Forston of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Norma McGregor of Belpre; one stepson, Gary L. Conger of Parkersburg; one sister, Virginia E. Chuita of Leesburg, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Timothy Buskirk of Williamstown, Jeffrey Buskirk of Vienna, Melissa Weiford of Vienna, James Chancey of Martinsburg, Debbie Deaton of Parkersburg, Tammy Maxwell of Parkersburg, Kristen Todd of Walker, Jennifer Deeter of Tulsa, Okla., Tracey Edwards of Elizabeth, Lori McGregor and Chris. McGregor of Belpre; five stepgrandchildren, Heather Burford of Jacksonville, Fla., Molly Kleffman of Fort Mill, S.C., Brian Weldon of Columbia, Vickie Krieg of Vienna and Brenda Kitner of Vienna; 25 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Joe" Conger, in 1979; and one great-grandchild. Services were held Jan. 4 at Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Phillip R. Newhart officiating. Burial was in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. James E. Corbin James Edward Corbin, 55, of Davisville, died Dec. 22, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 14, 1944, in Elkins, a son of Wanda Corbin Scheitlen of Richmond, Va., and the late Harry Junior Corbin. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a Protestant. He retired from E.I. DuPont as a lab worker after 30 years of service. He is survived by his mother; his wife, Sharon Watson Corbin; two sons, Chris Corbin of the home and James Brian Corbin of Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Jennifer Watkins of Belpre; one stepdaughter, Nicki Batten of Elizabeth; one stepson, David Thompson of Red Bluff, Calif.; three sisters, Anita Corely and Kathy McLean, both of Belington, W.Va., and Robin Allen of Richmond, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and one grandson. Services were held Dec. 24 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Mike Allen officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 15. Rosie Mae Elkins Rosie Mae Cox Elkins, 75, of Louisville, Ohio, died Dec. 23, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Elizabeth Jan. 21, 1924, a daughter of the late Okey and Connie Gooden Cox, She was an active member of the Fairhope United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Sharon Elkins of Lambertville, Mich., and David Elkins of Louisville; two grand-daughters and two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Royden, Robert, Raymond and Ronald Cox; five sisters, Ruby Hendricks, Rachel Hamrick, Ramona Watson, Ruth Mann and Rhoda Wade; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1995; one daughter, Lois Jean Hamm; her stepmother, Opal Cox; and one brother, Ralph Cox. Services were held Dec. 27 in Stier-Israel Funeral Home of Louisville with the Rev. Scott Hayward officiating. Interment was in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairhope United Methodist Church, Louisville, Ohio. Audra Henderson Audra Gae Henderson, 72, of Parkersburg, died Dec. 28, 1999, in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born April 13, 1927, in Roane County, a daughter of the late James Albert and Lelia Gae Rucker Moore. She was a homemaker. She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Slack of Parkersburg; one sister, Hermie Jones of Charleston; one granddaughter, Lynn Slack of Parkersburg; four grandsons, Mike Slack, Greg Slack, Roger Slack and Keith Slack, all of Parkersburg; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gay Preston Henderson; one son, Roger Dale Henderson; three sisters, Icie Henderson, Ada Taylor and Goldie Taylor; and one brother, Shelby Moore. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 31 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Ray R. "Pete" Jones officiating. Burial was in Moore Cemetery, Walton. Mary M. Holbert Mary M. Holbert, 84, of Parkersburg, died Jan. 1, 2000, at her residence. She was born March 16, 1915, in Wirt County, a daughter of the late G.E. and Janie Dowler Gant. She was a member of the South Parkersburg United Methodist Church and had sung with the Gospel Reunion Choir and also the Wood County Choir. She is survived by her husband, H.R. Holbert; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Carman Adams of Parkersburg; one grandson, Mark Adams of Parkersburg; three great-grandchildren, Andrea Williams of Knoxville, Tenn., Nikki and Mark Adams II, both of Parkersburg; one sister-in-law, Mary Gant of Parkersburg; four nieces; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. Services were held Jan. 4 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg, with the Revs. Carroll McCauley and Kermit Poling officiating. Burial was in Evergreen North Cemetery. Garland Martin Jr. Garland Martin Jr., 57, of Palestine, died Dec. 27, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wood County, a son of Garland Martin Sr. of Palestine and Jim and Nettie Cross of Parkersburg. He was a 23-year employee of AB Chance Company and recently opened the Martin Family's Restaurant in Elizabeth. He recently became a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church of Palestine. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Lynch Martin; two sons, Michael Martin of Vienna and Garland Martin III of Palestine; three daughters, Tonda Pursley of Sandyville, Delores Martin of Elizabeth and Amanda Butler of Palestine; six half sisters, Carolyn, Sheryl, Mary, Martha, Sarah and Betty; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Dewayne, Stephanie, Alex, Courtney and Zachary; and two stepgrandchildren, Josh and Natasha. He was preceded in death by one sister, Freda (Paula) Cross Roberts; and a stepmother, Betty Martin of Baltimore, Md. Services were held Dec. 31 at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home of Elizabeth with Pastor David Morris officiating. Burial was at Shiloh Church Cemetery of Palestine. Lee R. Settle Lee Roy Settle, 72, of Elizabeth, died Dec. 29, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Otho and Goldie Settle. He was a member of the Cisco Community Church and was retired from 0 Ames of Parkersburg. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Haines Settle; three sons, David L. and Ronnie Settle of Newark and Lee Roy Settle Jr. of Ritchie County; one daughter, Patty Spencer of Virginia; four stepchildren, Tom, Bob, Bill and Jane Haines; five brothers, Virgil Settle and Charlie Settle of Ritchie County, Seymour Settle of Newark, Ben Settle of Parkersburg and George Settle of Iowa; three sisters, Ona Paxton of Spencer, ldell Goff of Stumptown and Gretta Schoolcraft of Calhoun County; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lela Pearl Settle; one brother, Sheral Settle; and two sisters, Audra Walters and Addline Snider. Services were held Dec. 31 at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with the Revs. Clyde Border and Danny Ahart officiating. Burial was in Fought Cemetery, Newark. Tucker, 68, of Parkersburg, died Jan. 1, 2000, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Wirt County, a daughter of the late Robert and Goldie Snyder Reynolds. She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jack Murray of Parkersburg; one niece, Cammy Murray Pugh of Parkersburg; and one nephew, Jay Murray of Parkersburg. Services were at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Parkersburg Humane Society.
