I think it would be helpful for Listers to know that Wirt County became a break-off from Wood County in 1848, and both counties became W VA during the Civil War (1862). Prior to that they were both VA. This caused me a lot of confusion until I looked it up and also found that my gggrandfather William Samuel Ball was the 1st listed in the new county Deed Book.
