Pepper, of Munday, member of the Board of Education for Burning Springs, was a visitor here and at Parkersburg on Friday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. G.S. Kidwell, good folks of Two Ripple, were pleasant callers at the Journal Office on Friday of last week while in town shopping. Charlie Jones, of Newark, was a visitor here on Saturday. He has been working in the oil field at Pratt, Kanawha County and is home for a few days while waiting for a rig. He says that they are getting some big gas wells in that field which range from five to fourteen million. Oscar Edwards, progressive merchant and teacher, of Dulin, was a pleasant caller at the Journal Office while in town looking after business matters on Friday of last week. J.M. Gates, one of Reedy District's progressive farmers and good citizen, was a business visitor in town on Monday. John G. Tippens has accepted a position with the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. and will begin training at Parkersburg on Monday of next week. Samuel Thorn one of Palestine's good citizens, was a business visitor in Elizabeth on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert C. Cline of Vall's Creek, McDowell County, are visiting Mrs. Cline's parents, Rev. and Mrs. A.F. Monroe of Burning Springs for a few days. They were visitors in Elizabeth on Monday. B.D. Williams, local service station man, has sold his farm on the Elizabeth-Palestine road to a man from Spencer. Roy Elliott, of Oil Rock with his mother, Mrs. G.W. Elliott, of near Hartley, and children, Lucile, Ernest and Pauline, were visiting in Elizabeth Sunday. Mr. Elliott was driving a new Oldsmobile car. G.W. Munday, a good citizen of Straight Creek, was a pleasant caller at the Journal Office on Wednesday morning while en route to Williamstown to attend the M. Richter funeral. V.A. Rader, a good citizen of Right Reedy, was a visitor here Thursday morning. He is suffering from a catarrhal infection of his left hand. May 10, 1962 Wrestle With Cow Injures Sam Cooper Sam Cooper of Creston, who was looking about a cow on Island Run Wednesday afternoon, received a bad injury and is a patient in Camden Clark Hospital. Mr. Cooper got a rope on the animal but couldn't hold her and in the tussel a loop of the rope caught around his foot and around a tree. knocking him to the ground, where he remained unconscious for a half hour or more. It is reported that he has a broken bone in his foot and is recovering nicely. Bus Drivers Ask Pay Raise Wirt County Board of Education meeting in regular May session with all members present last Thursday heard almost the total representation of the school bus drivers ask for a pay raise for the 1962-63 school term. Alfred Monroe, head mechanic and driver acted as the spokesman for the delegation. They stated that they are $50 under paid compared to Wood County. Fire Truck Called To Pomroy Home The first fire alarm for a long time in Elizabeth sounded on Friday afternoon and the local volunteer unit went to the Don Pomroy home and extinguished a small blaze in a comer of the Pomroy garage. The fire is believed to have started from a trash basket in which a live cigarette may have been tossed. Damage was not extensive. Plan to Give Swim Lessons In order to make advanced plans for swimming classes to be given as soon as the new Russell A Woodyard Memorial Pool opens for the first time this year, those in charge would like to have an idea as to how many would be interested. The cost will be $12 for 12 lessons and the instructor will be Mrs. Glen Seymour, wife of our local State Police Trooper.
