Wirt County Journal May 1, 2002 Obituaries Patricia J. Crites Patricia J. Crites, 53, of Davisville, passed away April 24, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg. Mrs. Crites was born June 21, 1948, in Oberlin, O., a daughter of the late Herbert F. and Mary J. Welch Leininger. She was a housewife. She is survived by her husband, Gary Crites of Davisville; two daughters, Julie Gould and her husband, Stephen of Elizabeth and Traci Crites of Davisville; three brothers, Bob Leininger and his wife, Ann of Elyria, O., Jerry Leininger and his wife, Marilyn of Marion, O., and Butch Leininger of Gailsburg, Mich.; two grandchildren, Derick Allen Hamrick and Briana Rhea Paulk; two nephews, Greg and Steve Crites; four nieces that were very special, Roberta Steele, Donald Kay Blile, Pam Christian and Kathy Gibson and other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike and Herbert Jr. and three sisters, Helen Jackie Bealle, Ann Patchon and Beautrice Landrum. Services were held Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum in Sunset Memory Gardens with Wesley Thatcher officiating. Edna Letha Deem Edna Letha Deem, 81, formerly of south Parkersburg and Belpre, died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at The Arbors in Marietta. She was born June 28, 1920, in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Elda and Fannie E. Parrish Grady. She was a homemaker and a member of the Camden Avenue Church of Christ. She is survived by two daughters, Norma McGregor and her husband, Bill of Cortez, Fla., and Donna Weekly of Vienna; one son, C. Ray Deem and his wife, Shelby of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Madelyn Houchen of Springfield, O., and Jean Stevens and her husband, Frank of Cortland, O.; nine grandchildren, Barry Stump of Washington, Tracey Edwards of Elizabeth, Lori Beavers and Chris McGregor, of Belpre, Kelly Haga of Lexington, Angie Monday of Parkersburg, Wanza Georgio of Myrtle Beach, David Deem of Panama City and Larry Deem of Larkmead; 20 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delbert Clair Deem; three sisters, Hazel Grady, Leon Haynes and Ruth Mitchell Christianson and two brothers, Carl and Clair Grady. Services were held Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Haga officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen South Cemetery. Glen L. Moore Glen L. Moore, 75, of Rt. 3, Elizabeth, died April 25, 2002, at his residence. He was born Oct. 12, 1926, a son of the late Lundy and Clara Boice Moore. He retired from O'Ames after more than 38 years of service with the company. He was a farmer all of his life and was a member of the Slate United Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Helen Allman Moore; one special niece, Pat Reynolds of Elizabeth; one brother, Kenneth Moore of Parkersburg; two sisters, Ruth Hughes of Slate and Ruby Matheny of Mineral Wells and several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Moore and one sister, Garnet West. Services were held Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Brown officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Jackie Moneypenny Jackie D. Moneypenny, 68, of Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown, Ga., died April 19, 2002. He was born March 24, 1934, a son of the late Roy L. and Kathrine Moats Moneypenny. He was a graduate of Cairo High School class of 1953. Mr. Moneypenny was a native of Cairo, having made Grovetown his home for the past 30 years. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. He was a Vietnam veteran where he received the Bronze Star and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the retired owner of Moneypenny's Garage and husband of the late Mrs. Fannie B. Moneypenny. He is survived by four sons, Jeffrey Moneypenny Sr., Chandler, Ariz., David W. Moneypenny of Portland, Ore., Richard L. Moneypenny of Grovetown and James B. Moneypenny of Thomson; two daughters, Katherine D. Moneypenny of Thomaston, Ga., and Sherry M. Paquin of North Augusta; a brother, Billy Moneypenny of Carrollton, O.; two sisters, Veatrice Deem of Canton and Betty Lou Ellison of Elizabeth; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roy L. Moneypenny Jr. Services were held Monday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at the Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens. Carl Thorn Carl Thorn, 75, of Elizabeth, passed away Friday, April 26, 2002, at Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg. Mr. Thorn was born in Wirt County, a son of the late Claude Clark and Thelma E. Parsons Thorn. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He had been a sawmill operator and employed for 33 years with Union Insulating, where he had been a truck driver and shift supervisor. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Kyer Thorn; one son, Carl Eugene Thorn of Charles Town; one daughter, Carolyn Rebecca Thorn of Vienna; eight brothers, Bill and Chester Thorn of Elizabeth, Cloyd Thorn of Parkersburg, Roger and Ronnie of Hoopston, Ill., Charles Thorn of Grand Forks, N.D., Pete Thorn of Rantoul, Ill and Claude Clark Jr. of Warner Robbins, Ga.; three sisters, Ruth Bowman of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mary Thatcher of Henning, Ill., and Pauline Lockhart of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, Brandon, Megan, Jesse and Chase, all of Charles Town. He was preceded in death by one infant brother. Services were held Monday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Ash officiating. Burial was in Mayberry Cemetery in Wirt County.
