May 3, 1962 Amos Seeks Answer To Bond, Levy Question Wirt County Assessor Kendall Amos this week has in his hands perhaps the hottest question of the day in trying to determine whether or not to put the excess school bond and levy figures on the tax books for the coming fiscal year. If the figures are on the books and effected in taxes, funds can become available for a Wirt County school building program and for additional operating funds. If the figures are not put on the books, there will be a delay of at least a year before any building can be done, or extra needed operational funds can become available for the Board of Education. Golden Horseshoe Winners Announced The four Wirt County winners of Golden Horseshoes were determined last Friday as result of tests given the top 18 eighth grade students in the county at Elizabeth Elementary School under supervision of Louis Rollins and Peggy Cooper. The winners were: Larry Rogers, Lynn McCauley, Roy Lee Mace and Carol Lee McVey Hope To Finish Pool By May 30 There is still an urgent need for funds in order to finish the Woodyard Memorial Swimming Pool in time for a planned opening date or Memorial Day, May 30, 1962 the Journal learned this week.
