Wirt County Journal May 22, 2002 Obituaries Mary E. Beymer Mary Elizabeth Beymer, 76, of Ripley, died May 14, 2002, at Jackson General Hospital. She was born June 6, 1925, in Wirt County, the daughter of the late Dewey and Mae Mullinex. She was a homemaker, a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, an avid home gardener and was a well known painter in local homes. She is survived by two sons, Roy Richard Beymer arid wife, Geri of Sumter, S.C., and Charles Ray Mullinex and wife Nancy, of Kearneysville, W. Va.; one daughter, Brenda Jo Rollins and husband, George of Sandyville; one sister, Viola Mullinex of Ripley; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clair Finn Beymer. Services were held Friday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at Vail Funeral Home with Darrell Tackett officiating. Burial is in Independence Cemetery in Sandyville. Vanessa Lynn Cooper Vanessa Lynn Cooper, infant daughter of James Donald (J.D.) and Stephanie Watkins Cooper of Elkins, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, May 13, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. God sent this little angel into the lives of her parents and twin sister, Victoria Marie Cooper, her paternal grandparents, Richard and Vickie Wilfong Cooper of Elkins; her maternal grandparents, Jeff and Katie Amick Watkins of Elizabeth; her paternal great-grandparents, Donald and Martha LeCrone Cooper and Nancy Horton Elders, all of Missouri; her maternal great-grandparents, Betty Bain Watkins of Elizabeth and Jess and Dorothy Waller Amick of Parkersburg; her paternal great-great-grandfather, Marvin Cooper of Missouri; and her aunts and uncle, Jennifer, Jessica and Braxton Cooper of Elkins and Stormi Watkins of Elizabeth. Little Vanessa is now peacefully resting in the arms of her paternal great-grandfather, James Elder and her maternal great-grandfather, Ernest Watkins. Private graveside services were held at the Watkins Family Cemetery in Elizabeth. Lorna Fern Copen Lorna Fern Copen, 80, passed away April 22, 2002, at Magnolia Care Center. Mrs. Copen was born in Elizabeth, the daughter of the late James A. and Leana Mehl Kidwell. She had been a resident of Barberton most of her life. She was a homemaker. Survivors include three sons, Gary and Randy of Barberton and Roger (Cathy) of Wadsworth; two grandsons, Jonathan Copen and David (Jasmine) Copen; three great grandchildren, Sarah, Yazmine and Caleb and numerous loving nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ray D. Copen, and a grandson, Matthew. Services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hahn-Hostetler Funeral Home. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Luvena DeWees Luvena DeWees, 83, Rt. 2, Davisville, died May 16, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born April 6, 1919, in Wirt County, the only child of the late Charles and Lura Cleona Sheets Daughtery. Mrs. DeWees attended the Kanawha United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. She will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Luella and David Powell of Racine, O.; daughter-in-law, Vickie DeWees of North Richland Hills, Texas; five grandchildren, Julie Lucas of Davisville, Kelly Robinson of Parkersburg, Traci Lovell of Texas, David Powell of Fishkill, N.Y., and Doug Powell of Racine; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mauree Holbert. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, LeRoy DeWees, in 1975 and a son, LaVon DeWees. Services were held Monday, May 20, at 1 p.m. at the Vaughan Funeral Home with the Rev. L. Norman Butler officiating. Interment followed in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens.
